Yesterday, Australian tennis player Ash Barty sent shockwaves through the sporting world after it was announced that she would be retiring at the age of 25.
Ash, who is currently ranked number one in the world and most recently won the Australian Open, announced the news on Instagram through a video featuring fellow retired tennis player and commentator Casey Dellacqua.
In it she said, "I don't have the physical drive, the emotional want and everything it takes to challenge yourself at the very top level anymore. I just know that I am absolutely spent. I know physically I have nothing more to give, and that for me is success."
"I know that people may not understand it, and I'm okay with that. I'm so happy, I'm so ready, and I just know at the moment in my heart for me as a person that this is right."
"[Tennis has] given me all of my dreams and more, but I know that the time is right now for me to step away and chase other dreams, and put the racquet down."
Following the news, Australians and tennis players from around the world have applauded Ash's decision and career, including a sweet farewell message from one of the greats, Serena Williams.
On her Twitter, Serena wrote, "I can't lie. I was sad to read your decision, but also happy for your new chapter."
"Always your fan close up and afar. Sending all my love."
Other tennis heavyweights, like Dylan Alcott, Andy Murray, Karolina Pliskova and Simona Halep, sent love and support to Ash after hearing news of her retirement.
We truly love to see legends supporting legends! All the best to Ash who has had one heck of an incredible tennis career.
