Ever since the start of his Presidential campaign, Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has been vocal about his intent to bury former dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. On November 8, 2016, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the burial by a vote of 9-5. Ten days later, Marcos' body was interred at the Libingan without any prior notice to the public and despite the opposition's filing of motions for manifestation.
As of the afternoon of the burial, several protests were held by Filipinos against the court ruling in condemnation of the atrocities of Marcos and his family.
