Men—I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.
Yesterday, Emma Watson gave a deeply moving, resonating and inspiring speech on gender equality that garnered her a standing ovation at the United Nations Social Good Summit.
As the Goodwill Ambassador of UN Women, Watson was speaking to the room to launch their new campaign #heforshe. The premise of the campaign is that we cannot be successful in achieving gender equality unless both men and women are coming together to change it.
In her 10 minute speech, Watson formally invites all men and boys to join the movement for both women and themselves.
I want men to take up this mantle. So their daughters, sisters and mothers can be free from prejudice, but also so that their sons have permission to be vulnerable and human too—reclaim those parts of themselves they abandoned and in doing so be a more true and complete version of themselves
