Greek Spotlight: Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Epsilon Chi Chapter

Are you interested in Greek Life, #FutureRedbird? If so, we've got you covered! Since the year 1973, the Epsilon Chi chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. has been serving the community on- and off-campus. If you would like to hear more about this fraternity keep reading!

What would you like students to know about your organization?

We would like students to know that we are nationally known as the people's fraternity. Our events are all inclusive and open to the entire student body on campus. Our goal is to host events that will open doors for students to be able to impact our future generation.

How has your chapter impacted campus?

Annually, our chapter hosts a Breast Cancer Awareness program known as "Pink Playground. This year, we partnered with an RSO on campus called SASSI (Sisterhood, Academic Excellence, Service, Social Involvement, Influence). We provided a fun environment and worked with the women of SASSI to educate students on Breast Cancer.

Also, we recently held "Step and Stroll for Food", which is another annual event the Epsilon Chi chapter hosts. We are aware that there is a large homeless population in our country. Through this event, we want to educate ISU students as well as the surrounding community on ways they can help those who are in need. The brothers at ISU step and stroll for cash donations and canned goods to send to a variety of charities. This event upholds our commitment to service for our campus.

What are some notable events you would like people to know about?

A keynote event that we hosted last semester was, Showtime at the Apollo. This event was held to raise awareness for an ISU student who was diagnosed with cancer. The brothers of Phi Beta Sigma raised funds for the American Cancer Society and to help our dear friend Ade Temilolu.

Another notable event was the Google HangOutreach program. Daniel Jackson, who is ISU's first Google Student Ambassador and a member of Phi Beta Sigma, collaborated with Google employees to host this event. This event was designed to show students how to get a job at Google. Students also received resume tips and interview pointers. This event catered to computer science majors by helping them get their foot in the door with Google for a possible internship.

Fun Fact: Miss Black ISU

Miss Black ISU is a scholarship pageant that we host each year. The Epsilon Chi chapter started the Miss Black ISU pageant because minority women were not well represented in ISU's annual beauty pageant. Last year's scholarship winners were Simonne Harris (Miss Black ISU), Lauren Chapman (Miss Ebony), and Amber Blacke (Miss Essence). This pageant is open to current undergrad students, so please be on the lookout for more information.
