The Dutch Women's Football Team Have Changed Their Crest From A Lion To A Lioness

    "Simple, but fantastic."

After 46 years, the Dutch national women's football team will be changing their lion crest.

    To a lioness.

The women's team has always been known as Oranje Leeuwinnen (Orange Lionesses) and this change is so they visibly wear who they are.

Hannah Smit, W+K Amsterdam art director, said the idea is bigger than a campaign or logo update.

"It’s an idea that will endure and a strong statement that will help to continue to accelerate the growing momentum around women’s football," she said. "It’s a message that gives female players something of their own to rally behind and to help drive sports participation amongst women in the Netherlands and beyond.”

The new kit was revealed ahead of the UEFA Women's European Championship.

People have called it a great move.

The Netherlands Women’s National Team has a new crest, replacing the lion with a lioness. Great move.

    And badass.
