A 19-year-old has been arrested after students at a university in London noticed a clown who appeared to be carrying a chainsaw on Sunday.
The clown was seen at Brunel University by a number of students, who shared photos and videos on Twitter.
Charlotte Hulme, a 21-year-old English student, told BuzzFeed News that they went and hid in their rooms.
Hulme said that a lot of students were terrified, with many of them running across campus back to their rooms.
She said they spoke to security at the time who said they were taking the issue seriously.
Hulme said: "He also chased someone, jumping up from behind a car, and he was waving around a chainsaw."
A 19-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of committing a public order offence: He has been bailed, the BBC reported.
Security Operations Manager Terry Vass from Brunel University told BuzzFeed News that there had been an upsurge in such incidents: "Thames Valley Police attended at least 14 reports of people intimidated or frightened by people dressed as clowns over a 24 hour period this weekend. It appears to have originated in the US,” he said.
