The year 2014. has sashayed away and it is time for you to sort your impressions, vote and give an award for the most challenging and brave step forward in the fight for equality and freedom in Serbia in 2014. Golden Hibiscus, a special award for the gay icon, starting this year, is named after the famous Hibiscus, pioneer of the gay liberation movement and leader of the psychedelic gay liberation theater collective known as the Cockettes in early 1970s. This symbolic prize is awarded by web portal GayEcho and engaged and queer art organization IDAHO Belgrade aiming to raise awareness about importance and necessity of constant fight for human rights, freedom and solidarity with those whose rights are threatened and jeopardized. Around the globe, and especially in Serbia, any kind of positive involvement and advocacy for human rights of LGBT and queer people is immensely important and precious. Yet, there are more than a few top candidates! Who was the most inspiring one and deserves a gay icon title? Vote below!
