11 Reasons To Be Stoked About Marvel's "Daredevil" On Netflix

All of the important things we learned from the Daredevil panel at New York Comic Con.

1. Marvel execs knew they wanted Charlie Cox to play Matt Murdock long before they knew they were doing the show. / Via Marvel/Netflix

Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television: One day the phone rings, and Joe Quesada says to me, "I found Matt Murdock." I didn't know what he meant. "There's this actor. He's gonna be on Daredevil." And I said to him, "We don't have that property right now." He said, "Well we will." The person Joe picked out that day is the person that we cast, and that is Charlie Cox.

2. Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin will be an intense villain. / Via Marvel

Vincent D'Onofrio (Kingpin): Our Fisk is a child, and he's a monster. Every move that he makes, and everything that he does in his story, comes from his foundation of morality within himself.

4. The line between hero and villain will be blurred. / Via Marvel

Steven S. DeKnight, executive producer: Daredevil's one bad day from becoming Frank Castle ... When you see why Fisk does what he does, you might think, That's not such a bad idea.

5. Frank Miller and Brian Michael Bendis heavily influenced the cast. / Via Marvel

Charlie Cox (Daredevil): I am most influenced by the Bendis/[Alex] Maleev stuff.

VD: The artwork and the run of Frank Miller influenced me a lot. The stuff that I read a lot as a kid isn't so much for our Daredevil. But I went to Forbidden Planet, and they walked around with me and I walked out with a stack of comics...

7. It won't be as light as a certain other Marvel show. / Via Marvel

SD: My influences growing up were the Frank Miller run ... and I think you'll really, really see that in the gritty, realistic tone of this show.

CC: I think the reason Daredevil fits the Netflix platform is that he does go to a little bit older audience, and that's something we were able to do on there. It's a little bit darker.

8. Daredevil will definitely lead into another superhero team. / Via Marvel

JL: As most of you know, Daredevil is the first of five shows we're doing with Netflix. After, we're doing Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and then The Defenders.

9. It will benefit from binge-watching. / Via Marvel

CC: Because there isn't a week in between [episodes], you have to spend less time reminding the audiences of what happened. And also ending an episode on a cliff-hanger is kind of fruitless. I think more than anything else it's going to feel like a 13-hour movie.

11. The cast seems to be one big happy family.

Deborah Woll (Karen Page): It helped the quick transition, actually. It was hard to leave behind my old family [True Blood], but helped to jump right into a new one.

Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson): It was great working with Charlie and Deborah. It's really nice to come to work every day and be excited about being with these people you're spending 12 hours a day with.

Ayelet Zurer (Wilson Fisk's love interest, Vanessa): ...Mr. D'Onofrio is fabulous. He gets you into that place and that moment.
