Student Shot And Killed At Liberty University In Virginia

A male student was shot by an officer in the lobby of a women's-only dorm Tuesday.

A student was shot and killed during an altercation with an officer at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., Tuesday morning.

The male student, who has not yet been identified, attacked a Liberty University Emergency Services Officer in the lobby of a women's-only dorm early Tuesday, according to the university. The officer shot the student, and the student was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment. It is not clear if the student was armed.

"The Liberty University community is deeply saddened by this tragic event and is prayerfully supporting all those impacted," University President Jerry Falwell Jr., said in a statement.

The university indicated the incident was isolated and said campus is now "open and operating as normal." Liberty University is the largest Christian university in the world. It was founded in 1971 by pastor and Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell Sr.
