A New Jersey dog crowned the world's ugliest dog has died, the Associated Press reports.

Elwood, who was 8, was named the world's ugliest dog in 2007 at the annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Marin-Sonoma County Fair in California. The Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix died unexpectedly Thanksgiving morning, his owner Karen Quigley said.

Elwood was hairless except for a patch of white hair on his head and had a tongue that was too large for his mouth. Fans sometimes referred to him as Yoda or E.T.
