    My Prospective Mulan Audition (Sort Of)

    The casting of Asians in Hollywood films has long since been a losing battle. But despite the closed-mindedness of some of the prejudiced, there are so many others that more than make up for the shortcomings of the racist. The recent “don’t whitewash Mulan” internet petition directed at Disney was heartwarming for me to see. And Disney’s response was even more encouraging because I realized that I actually have a shot at being cast in the new Mulan adaption. Though I’ve dappled in classic “Asian” hobbies (namely, classical piano training and classes like AP Calculus), the one thing I’ve remained passionate about is acting.

    And this is me taking a very small step towards a very big goal. This is, by far, a long shot, but I would love for my growing playlist of acting videos to reach the directors and producers at Disney Studios. It would be an honor to be considered for the role of Mulan, or any other role, in the upcoming live action adaption of this classic Chinese tale.
