15 Times TV Shows Thought They Were Being Smart And Cool, But They So Were Not

"I have a master's degree in American literature. There is nothing I can’t handle."

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us a TV quote that was written to be serious but ended up being hilarious. Here are the cringe- and/or chuckle-inducing responses.

    1. Let's start with an obvious one: Jughead's ever-so-art-boy speech on Riverdale.

Jughead says, "In case you haven't noticed, I'm weird, I'm a weirdo, I don't fit in, and I don't want to fit in, have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on, that's weird"
    The CW

    2. And when Archie actually uttered this to his fellow juvie inmate, giving us another Riverdale classic.

An inmate says, "I dropped out in the fourth grade to run drugs to support my nana," and Archie says, "That means you haven't known the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school football"
    The CW

    3. When Abraham from The Walking Dead came up with a wonderful new saying.

Abraham says, "Why are dingleberries brown, it's just the way shit is"
    American Movie Classics (AMC)

    4. On True Blood, when Eric said maybe the worst thing I've ever heard.

Eric says, "We fight like siblings, but we fuck like champions"
    Home Box Office (HBO)

    5. When Carrie from Sex and the City earned all the eye rolls in the world when she said this on a date.

Carrie says, "You know when I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I would buy Vogue instead of dinner, I just felt it fed me more"
    Home Box Office (HBO)

    6. When Dawn from Buffy the Vampire Slayer really fumbled the word ball after her first kiss.

    Dawn says, "Shiver me timbers"
    Mutant Enemy

    7. When Ezra from Pretty Little Liars explained why he could handle anything and I choked on my sparkling water.

Ezra says, "I have a master's degree in American Literature, there is nothing I can’t handle"
    ABC Family

    8. When Riverdale's resident teenage speakeasy entrepreneur, Veronica Lodge, hit Cheryl with this zinger.

Veronica says, "You wanted fire, sorry Cheryl bombshell, my specialty's ice"
    The CW

    9. When Ben attempted to comfort Amy on The Secret Life of the American Teenager. (Let's ban the word "whore" forever.)

Amy cries and says "I'm such a whore," and Ben says, "Well, you're my whore"
    ABC Family

    10. When Stefan from The Vampire Diaries talked about being a ripper. According to my colleague, "When he's in his ripper state, he basically just enjoys eating, killing, and torturing his victims and has no remorse afterwards."

    Stefan says, "I'm a ripper, a ripper doesn't stop"
    The CW

    11. When Clary expressed her love for Jace on Shadowhunters and made each and every human being cringe.

Clary says, "Every single cell in my body loves you, and those cells die and new ones are born, those cells love you even more, so, Jace, no matter what happens, my love for you will never die"
    Constantin Film

    12. On Game of Thrones, when Tyene used the gross phrase "good girl" in the grossest sentence ever.

Tyene whispers, "You want a good girl, but you need the bad pussy"

    13. When Cheryl from Riverdale said this while asking Toni to move in with her — keep in mind, they're both in high school.

Cheryl says, "I’m cuckoo bananas for you, obvi"
    The CW

    14. And this was Toni's response.

Toni says, "As long as I'm the big spoon"
    The CW

    15. And finally, of course, when Jessie took caffeine pills on Saved by the Bell and this happened.

Jess sings, "I'm so excited, I'm so excited," then she says, I'm so scared"
    NBC Productions
