The dwarves are a tough, resilient people who are masterful builders, craftsmen, and engineers. Their three remaining underground cities that haven't been besieged by darkspawn are deeply traditional and governed by a rigid caste system. Dwarves who choose to live on the surface are outcast from their ancestral home, but have much greater freedom to forge their own destiny. Dwarves are highly resistant to magic and are completely unable to wield it.

The elves’ tragic history saw their entire civilization and culture almost completely destroyed. Elves are persecuted to this day and forced to reside in walled off slums within human cities. The Dalish elves choose to instead live in the wilderness and preserve what little remains of their way of life. The elves have the greatest affinity for magic of all the races and were once immortal, but that too was taken from them long ago.

Humans are the most powerful species in Thedas. Militaristic, deeply certain of their own righteousness and possessing a deep faith that shapes their entire society, the humans have been responsible for both great deeds and terrible injustices. They're a greatly diverse race, from the fiercely pious and imperialistic Orlesians, to the widely abhorred Tevinters who practice slavery and blood magic. The humans can be very intolerant and widely persecute the elves.

Human

The Qunari are a widely feared and misunderstood species. At the core of their religion is a belief in order, and that this order must be spread through military force and violent conversion. They also fear mages even more than humans do and have them permanently bound and their lips sewn up. Many Qunari don’t agree with all the Qun does but have faith in the central idea of self-discipline.
