8 Underrated Disney Characters That Should Be Talked About A Lot More Often

    These characters need love too!!

    1. Philoctetes, Hercules

Danny DeVito as Philoctetes in the movie "Hercules."

Phil is the endless support of Hercules needs while he struggles with becoming a true hero. He consistently steps up to train and remind Hercules just how great he is. While some view Phil as selfish, this sidekick has a big heart and a lot of love for our hero.

    2. Mufasa, The Lion King

James Earl Jones as Mufasa in the movie "The Lion King."

While this movie's central narrative does focus on Simba, you rarely hear fans talk about the greatest king there ever was, Mufasa. Most people just remember his untimely demise, but he was so much more than that; he truly was an amazing character. He's a guiding force, a stand-up father, and pretty much the entire reason The Lion King is a great movie. No longer shall Mufasa live in Simba’s shadow, it should be the other way around!

    3. Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, Sleeping Beauty

Verna Felton, Barbara Jo Allen, and Barbara Luddy as Flora, Fauna and Merryweather respectively in the movie "Sleeping Beauty."

Nothing says “I love you” more than volunteering to take care of someone for their entire life. That’s exactly what the three good fairies did in Sleeping Beauty. Of course, it was their job to keep her safe, but together they raised a girl with a beautiful soul. That’s pretty special!

    4. Bagheera, The Jungle Book

Sebastian Cabot as Bagheera in the movie "The Jungle Book."

As one of the most loyal and protective friends of the man cub, Bagherra often gets overlooked by the fun loving Baloo. Bagherra might seem strict, but his dedication to keeping Mowgli safe comes with the best intentions, even if it’s not the symbol of fun.

    5. Nani and David, Lilo & Stitch

Tia Carrere as Nani Pelekai and Jason Scott Lee as David Kawena in the movie "Lilo & Stitch."

Watching this movie as an adult makes you realize how Lilo is a bit of a trouble maker with every reason to be acting out and Nani is in over her head, but doing very well given her circumstances. There is no better couple than the patient and caring pair of Nani and David. Both show some of the best parenting skills out of any Disney movie parents. They're firm, caring, and nurturing to not only Lilo, but also each other.

    6. Mama Odie, The Princess and the Frog

Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie in the movie "The Princess and the Frog."

Mama Odie is the perfect kick in the pants that the characters in this movie desperately need. This woman is a hilarious character that speaks louder than her over-the-top personality. Her blindness is no issue as she sees things much more clearly than others. She’s not afraid to speak the truth, show her true colors, and guide everyone to where they need to be.

    7. Esmerelda, The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Demi Moore as Esmeralda in the movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

Rarely claimed as one of Disney’s iconic females, Esmerelda is beautiful inside and out. The movie itself has a mostly creepy plot line that almost has no place in modern times, but Esmerelda stands above it all as a character who puts others before herself. She sees the inner beauty of everyone she meets and tries not to pass judgement on anyone, even if they deserve it. She's a selfless character who deserves more respect.

    8. And finally, Timothy Q. Mouse, Dumbo

Timothy Mouse uses a small scrub brush to check the trunk of Dumbo the elephant.

Timothy remains one of Dumbo’s only friends during the entire movie. He's the elephant’s inspiration and remains supportive of his friend even when everyone else isn’t. He shows real pride in the little elephant while believing that anything is possible. He's truly a good and positive addition to this movie!
