31 Things For Your Home That Won't Break The Bank

A bit of peel-and-stick wallpaper really might just change your life.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI β€” prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. A shelf liner to provide a nonslip padding inside your cabinets, closets, and drawers so your belongings can be safely stowed away.

    amazon.com, Amazon

You can cut these for a perfect fit, so no worries about the exact sizing. It's also machine washable, so any crumbs or stains can be easily removed.

Promising review: "I have recently moved into an apartment with some pretty gross cupboards, drawers, and kitchen shelves that I can do almost nothing about. I didn't want to put down adhesive shelf liner and traditional mesh type cushioning shelf liner doesn't really protect my dishes from touching the ancient stained wood. This stuff is a great solution for me. It's a nice thick padding that's textured on the bottom so it doesn't slide around. The top is slick and smooth and easy to clean. I don't really bother to trim this stuff, instead I place it in the cupboard and let the excess bend up around the edges creating a little bumper around the edge of the cabinet. Makes me feel so much better about my kitchen and the bright white look says 'clean' in a place that desperately needs something to say 'clean.' I've used a couple different types of this style of liner in this kitchen and this brand is by far my favorite. Go ahead and buy the larger rolls. Ten feet seems like a lot of material until you're filling cupboards and drawers you'll use more than you think." β€”Taylor Whitney

Get it from Amazon for $9.99 (available in nine sizes).

    2. A humidity alert hub and sensors – place it near your washing machine, dishwasher, under your sinks and in your basement to alert you if there is ever a leak. Better safe than sorry!

    Amazon

My father-in-law is a big proponent of this lil' gadget, so it should be no surprise we've already ordered them for our home. Don't tell him (it'll go right to his head), but I think they're actually a great idea. His basement occasionally floods and these sensors let him know. Essentially, an alarm goes off if for some reason you have water coming in anywhere near the sensor. It'll ping your phone so you can get straight to the root of the problem ASAP before it becomes, well, an even BIGGER problem. It also connect to Alexa, Google, and Apple HomeKit.

Promising review: "Purchased these to use in our freezers at home. We had issues where doors were getting left open, and needed something to warn when the temperature is creeping up. These have been a great addition to our smart home setup." β€”Michael Hendricks

Get them from Amazon: the hub for $49.99 and sensors for $19.99 each.

    3. A flexible cleaning brush that'll pull all of the hard-to-reach pieces of lint out of your dryer. I truly can't think of anything more satisfying, TBH.

the flexible bristle brush cleaning out the dryer vent
    Amazon

I bought one of these right before moving into my new home in preparation to clean out the dryer that was left behind from the previous owner. It worked wonders! It really got down into the narrow crevice and pulled out a ton of dust I wouldn't have been able to reach on my own.

Promising review: "Works perfectly for scrubbing the stuck lint out of the insides of your dryer. Everyone who owns a dryer should have these, they're basic safety equipment. Clean that lint, and reduce the fire hazard and make the machine more efficient. They're long enough, strong enough, and just flexible enough without being too flexible." β€”Winged Wolf

Get two from Amazon for $7.95.

    4. Felt pads to place under all of your furniture to ensure you don't scratch the wood floors you just paid a ton of money to have stained and refinished.

    Amazon, amazon.com

Promising review: "Just got a new house with all new wood floors. Every piece of furniture needed felt 'feet.' I found this package on Amazon and hoped it would do the trick for all of my furniture. When I received it (quickly no less) I thought it was too small of a package to get the job done, but once I started with the dining room table and six chairs I realized there was plenty in the package to add a dot to every bit of furniture I needed to 'shoe.' It was easy to adhere and now everything scoots like a dream." β€”Robyn Restel

Get a box of 181 pads from Amazon for $12.81.

    5. A frame for your peephole for any diehard Friends fans, because you and I both know you always wish you could've lived in Monica's epic apartment. All you'll have to do next is paint your door purple!

    amazon.com, amazon.com

    6. A bamboo burner cover that'll magically add an extra space for chopping up veggies in your kitchen β€” it'll feel like you *poof* doubled your counter space!

    Jennifer Tonti / BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed writer Jennifer Tonti credits this burner cover for helping her cook with ease:

"OK so I just bought this for my own tiny apartment (pictured above) and OMG you guys. Life = changed. Food = chopped. Counter space = doubled. I mean the math is all there."

Promising review: "This is so perfect for extra space. It covers the top of my apartment-sized stove so I can then use my stove space for my Instant Pot and food prep. The best space-saving and cosmetic thing I have ever gotten for this tiny apartment." β€”Talyn Amber Skye

Get it from Amazon for $25.01+ (available in five styles).

    7. A curtain of twinkle lights to make you feel like you're sleeping inside a magical fairyland. Who wouldn't want that?

    amazon.com, amazon.com

If it were up to me, I would leave my Christmas lights up inside my home all year long. These twinkle lights are a great way to create that look without being overtly holiday-themed. Tinker Bell would certainly approve!

Promising review: "I saw a few pictures online of fairy lights with sheer curtains and loved the look. These lights in particular are perfect for what I was looking for. It gives off a warm, cozy glow and really adds a nice touch of oomph to the room." β€”NG

Get it from Amazon for $17.99.

    8. A garage door opener you can control from your phone β€” no more wondering if you remembered to shut the door after you drove away then panicking about it for the rest of your outing.

the garage opener and base and a screenshot of a phone with the app open
    Amazon

Neither my husband nor I have ever had a garage, but this is a new worry that seems to plague us now that we DO have one. He immediately ordered this in an attempt to qualm his fears about forgetting to close the garage, which is filled with pretty much everything we own right now. We even drove 20 minutes away recently only to turn around to ensure the garage was, in fact, closed. Don't be like us. Order this product.

Promising review: "Bought this for my parents β€” my dad always forgets to close the garage when he leaves and it makes my mom feel unsafe. I installed it and got the app working on all three of our phones in under 20 minutes even with not-great Wi-Fi in the garage. Set up a schedule to automatically try to close the door every hour if it's open. It gives my mom peace of mind that she can check and see the garage is closed from anywhere. Overall: easy to install, working great, and I would definitely recommend this product." β€”LG

Get it from Amazon for $25.89.

    9. A handbag organizer, because you've spent a lot of money on those babies so you might as well make sure they have a safe place to *hang* out when they're not accompanying you to brunch.

a hanging organizer for six hand bags in a closet
    LeSacBag / Etsy

LeSacBag is a small business that sells bags and other accessories.

Promising review: "Definitely gets the job done, I had my purses tossed in a box and they were beginning to warp, this has literally saved them from anymore of my negligent behavior." β€”keishila

    a model holding the remote
    Amazon

Promising review: "I have three sets of these and use them at home and at my cabin in the Rockies. They work great and power through walls. I use one to turn on and off a painting light that otherwise could only be turned on by climbing onto the fireplace and carefully reaching up and behind the painting to turn on. Why get up and stumble around to turn on a light?" β€”Lee

Get it from Amazon for $18.91.

    11. A pack of oven liners to protect the bottom of your oven from the river of cheese that sometimes escapes from your prized casserole.

the oven liner covered in goo on the bottom of an oven
    Amazon

Promising review: "These liners are life-changing! I never thought I needed them until a friend raved about them. Clean up is so simple, no more melted cheese or sauces burnt to the bottom of my ovens. I love that I can cut them down to size to fit my toaster oven. My husband enjoys grilling with the liners now, he doesn't have to line the grill with aluminum foil which he found so annoying, deterring him to grill. This product really has simplified my life in the kitchen and I love it." β€”Kindle Custommer

Get a pack of three from Amazon for $12.99.

    12. A peel-and-stick wallpaper you can put in your kitchen and pretend you're actually living your best life on an island in Greece every time you make your morning coffee.

Blue and white faux tile behind bathroom shelves
    Amazon

Promising review: "I am IN LOVE. I bought this to use as a backsplash in my rented studio apartment kitchen, which has potential to be pretty but really needs some help. I ordered two rolls thinking that if I liked it in my kitchen, I’d order more to use on the wall behind my bar cart. I loved it so much when it came in that I decided to go ahead and put it up on the big wall and deal with the kitchen later. The pattern is so easy to line up and it looks so good! My tiny, dark apartment instantly looked bigger and brighter. Even up close I can’t tell where the seams are. It was super easy to put up by myself, though I would recommend having another person to help if possible because it would have taken a lot less time if I’d had someone to hold it steady while I lined up the edges. If I could give six stars I would. It’s expensive but worth every penny!" β€”Lizzy

Get it from Amazon for $29.60+ (available in three colors).

    13. A garbage guard that'll keep pesky flies and other insects from congregating around your can.

    Amazon, Amazon / Via amazon.com

Promising review: "Got an outdoor can, the kind the mechanical arm on the garbage truck picks up and tips over, with the lid opening by gravity. Placed this on the inside of the lid, near the hinge to lessen the chances of it being scraped off during emptying and no flies/maggots! No apparent odor, just seems to put a big hurt on the fly party that used to be my trash can (litter box contents, remnants of meat, etc.) " β€”Michael E. Bradley

Get it from Amazon for $7.44.

    14. A rechargeable lighter to light every candle in your house to create the *perfect* ambience without concern you'll run out of lighter fluid.

    Heather Braga / BuzzFeed, Amazon

I'm obsessed with candles, so it was a no-brainer for my husband to gift me this surprisingly super fun gadget. It's really simple to use and charge, and it really works! I'll never have to buy another lighter again.

Promising review: "This is seriously the coolest device of my winter holiday. It makes lighting candles a breeze. Yes, there is a weird crackling noise, but that's a super minor annoyance. It's a super intuitive device. Plus the lighter with the USB (included), charge for a bit, then pop it open and light ALL THE THINGS; well, candles. I don't know how well it lights cigarettes or whatever. However, for my personal intended use, it's awesome!" β€”Jee W

Get it from Amazon for $9.99.

    15. A magnificent toilet cleaning gel stamp from Scrubbing Bubbles, so when you finally get around to thoroughly cleaning your bowl it'll do the heavy lifting until the next time you think to yourself "when was the last time I cleaned this thing?"

a model using the stamp inside the toilet
    Amazon

Promising review: "Okay I was so confused when I opened this but honestly it’s easy to use and after I completely deep cleaned my bathroom, I tried one of these stamps on my toilet. I was sooo skeptical and was confused how they’d work but the gel solidifies and with every flush, suds wash through with the water and it really makes a fresh difference. Also the scent is light but really nice and fresh! I recommend these 100%! They’re super interesting but they do the job." β€”Janet

Get a set of six from Amazon for $4.99.

    16. A Baby Yoda night-light that, for lack of a better term, will become your *guiding light* as you make your way through your hallway in the middle of the night when you'll inevitably have to pee.

    Heather Braga / BuzzFeed, Amazon

I am admittedly obsessed with "The Child" and can't get enough of him β€” that includes letting him reign over my bathroom at night in the form of the night-light.

Promising review: "So cute and I love that it turns on when it senses it is dark. Would also make a cute gift! Could be brighter, but it is perfect for what I was looking for and adds fun to my home." β€”Julie

Get it from Amazon for $6.99.

    17. A box of washing machine cleaning tablets you can use to easily remove any odor-causing residue from inside your machine.

    amazon.com

You can use this product on both front-load and top-load washing machines. I ran it through the old washing machine that was left in my new house (beggars can't be choosers!) and it came out nice and clean. I was so satisfied by how shiny, fresh, and clean the inside looked after. You might as well give their dishwasher cleaning tabs a try while you're at it.

Promising review: "I have been using bleach to clean my machine for some time but decided to give this a try a few months ago. My very first clean with Affresh left me surprised and delighted, for not only did it clean my machine, it eliminated the nasty smell that always transferred to my clothes thanks to a buildup of mold I didn't even know about. Every month now, I toss a tablet into the drum and let it work its magic. Now my machine is cleaner than ever, and my clothes always smell wonderfully fresh. I highly recommend this to everyone." β€”Kelli Crawford

Get it from Amazon for $11.99.

    18. Rubbermaid's power scrubbing brush, for when you want to give your grout an all-inclusive spa treatment and bring it back to its squeaky-clean glory.

    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed, amazon.com

Promising review: "Last night I was reborn. What is the cause of this renewed zest for life, you might ask? It was the use of the Rubbermaid Reveal Power Scrubber on my shower grout. It elevated a simple baking soda-and-water solution to alchemical proportions. My pink-tiled shower, the one that came with my scummy apartment, the one that never looks clean no matter how many hours of backbreaking labor I put in, now looks bright, clean, and full of promise. An otherwise disgusting and dated purely utilitarian part of my home is now art. TL;DR: This this is absolutely incredible." β€”Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $17.99.

    19. A towel from Havly that'll get softer each time you wash it. It also has a colorful handle to hang it up with and make sure your partner never actually dries off their booty with *your* towel.

    shophavly / Via instagram.com

I absolutely swear by these towels β€” they are unbelievably soft. It's thicker than most of my towels but seemingly takes up less space. The loop to hang it is super sturdy which is an added bonus. They also have themed names for each colored loop like Emerald City (for The Wizard of Oz), Zissou Blue (like Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic), and Dark Side (Star Wars!). Havly is a small business based out of Belle Meade, NJ.

Get it from Havly for $44 (available in eight colors).

    20. A garbage-disposal foaming cleaner to scrub away the stinky grime that builds up on the blades and in the pipes.

    Amazon

    Look at that foam go!

Promising review: "It seems counterintuitive to put a little packet down your garbage disposal to clean it, but this does actually seem to work, at least for getting out weird smells that baking soda and vinegar don't really touch. I scrub the sink down first, especially around the garbage disposal area, rinse it down, and then just follow the directions on the package. I have used it with single, large-size sinks and with double sinks β€” only difference is that the double sink will have blue cleaning foam rise up the drain, which you rinse away when the disposal sounds clear again. I have tried the foaming cleaner in a can, but unfortunately it stopped coming out of the can about 10% of the way through. Went back to this tried-and-true." β€”KS

Get it from Amazon for $4.15

    21. An industrial desk lamp that'll keep you company while you go down a rabbit hole of online shopping when you're actually supposed to be working. Oops. Couldn't be me...

a desk lamp with an exposed bulb
    amazon.com

Promising review: "I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE these lamps! I bought two of them, one for each of my nightstands. They are so adorable and so modern farmhouse-y!! They are extremely lightweight and look so good in our room. I wanted a more intimate lighting so my significant other could have their light on at night if I was sleeping, so I wouldn’t wake up. I like them so much I would buy them again." β€”Lauren Cammarata

Get it from Amazon for $19.99.

    22. A SinkShroom strainer you won't know how you lived without because it'll keep your kitchen sink unclogged no matter how much gunk you fill it with.

    Heather Braga / BuzzFeed, Amazon

I bought this for myself (since I'm clearly a REAL adult) and OMG. This thing REALLY works. Usually when my husband makes sauce from scratch I'm left with chunks of tomatoes throughout my sink and water that WILL NOT drain β€” that was until I bought the SinkShroom. My mom was so impressed she bought one, too. It's a serious game-changer.

Promising review: "I’ve been a fan of the SinkShroom and TubShroom, and this is the best product from the line so far. My kitchen sinks simply do not clog any more, so there’s no more reaching into a bunch of water to unclog anything with my hand." β€”Brady Amerson

Get it from Amazon for $9.60.

    23. A universal remote attachment, because no one wants to fumble with three different remotes trying to figure out which one will turn the TV on.

An attachment on an Amazon Fire Stick remote
    Amazon

Promising review: "This is a great little accessory for your Amazon remote. I was tired of always getting my TV controller out to change the volume or input or turn the TV on or off, but this little addition does it all and attaches right to the Fire TV remote." β€”TDS

Get it from Amazon for $24.99.

    24. A floral duvet cover to bring the freshness of spring into your bedroom β€” you'll love it even more during the dreary winter months.

a black comforter with pink florals on it
    Amazon

The set comes with a microfiber duvet cover and two pillow cases. Don't forget to pick up a duvet insert as well!

Promising review: "Absolutely love this duvet. I was having a hard time a geometric boho/mid century style duvet that wasn’t $200 and up. I love Amazon for this reason! Quality is great, love that it has a zipper instead of buttons. Have literally bought all our bedding from Amazon! This was a perfect addition to our guest room." β€”Steven W. Finckbeiner

Get it from Amazon for $29.99+ (available in sizes twin, full/queen, and king and nine styles).

    25. A stainless-steel cleaner you can count on to make your appliances so shiny you won't be able to stop staring at your own reflection in them (spoiler: you look GOOD!).

a model cleaning their microwave with the product
    Amazon

This plant-based cleaner will remove streaks, smudges, and fingerprints from all stainless steel surfaces β€” sounds very therapeutic to me!

Promising review: "THIS Therapy Premium Stainless Steel Cleaner is AMAZING. New dishwasher and and a hungry dog are NOT compatible! Our small dog, 12 pounds, had a habit of stretching up her front paws and scratching her nails on the dishwasher while her food was prepared. Not even days had gone by and the new dishwasher had little thin claw scratches all down the front. I had stopped her by placing a footstool to block her, but other family members had not, despite my instructions. I tried several cleaners and had resigned to having a scratched appliance. But ONE try with the Therapy cleaner β€” yes, a *miracle*. The scratches cannot be seen at all β€” polished right out of sight. The dishwasher looks even better than when fresh out of the box β€” it is gleaming. I eagerly shared the success with my kitchen remodeler, who installs many appliances, and I hope others can restore their stainless products. Try it!" β€”L. Peterson

Get it from Amazon for $16.95.

    26. An all-natural tile and tub cleaner you can count on to effectively remove mold, mildew, and rust β€” just think of *how* satisfying your before and after photos will be.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I have an old shower/bathtub. I tried name-brand shower cleaners and bleach to try and clean the soap scum off the tiles and tub. I had no luck and I would cough and get sick because of how strong the smell was. I thought I would try this to save my lungs. I sprayed my entire shower and left it for about 15 minutes. I came back and rinsed off the walls and they were shiny! I've never had such a clean shower. The smell is amazing and subtle. All I smell is tea tree and it didn't affect me at all. The price is also a good deal since the bottle is pretty large. It came with the sprayer separate and the bottle sealed so it wouldn't leak in the box. I highly recommend this." β€”Amber Erwin

Get a pack of two from Amazon for $12.99 or Subscribe & Save for $12.34.

    27. A macrame swing for the corner of your room β€” just imagine how soothing it would be to curl up with a blanket and nap or read in there. Delightful.

    amazon.com, amazon.com

Promising review: "Bought this for my 6-year-old's room makeover. She loves it and curls up in it most days. She piles in the pillows and blankets to make the ropes cozy. I had my dad, who built houses for a living, install it for me to make sure it was secure but I think as long as you use a stud finder and have a good screw driver, anyone can do this." β€”KrisSquared

Get it from Amazon for $49.99.

    28. Wood floating shelves you'll find super simple to install so instead of wasting time reading instructions you can spend your day deciding what to put on display instead.

three floating shelves in a bathroom
    amazon.com

Promising review: "Purchased these shelves to display our growing Game of Thrones Funko collection. The shelves were super easy to install and are really sturdy. We loved the color! The different sized widths of shelves accommodated the different sizes of pops, which worked great for us. Thinking about buying another set for more displays!" β€”Pamela

Several tiny candles aflame beside a wooden spoon and beeswax
    Amazon

BuzzFeed writer Mallory Mower has these. She said:

"These are the candles I use when I need a really relaxing bath. I love that they don't have a scent, so their aroma doesn't clash with the bubbles or salts I have in the water. They last a surprisingly long time and create the most calming atmosphere."

Get a pack of 100 on Amazon for $19.50.

a black fuzzy mickey ear hat pillow
    Heather Braga/ BuzzFeed

I have this pillow and it is the *perfect* addition to my Disney-inspired guest bedroom (and by that I mean as Disney-themed as I can get away with without my husband being like "seriously, Heather?"). It is SO plush and squishy and soft β€” I just wanna put my face directly into the middle of it and stay that way forever. It's a great throw pillow, clearly.
