49 Cool Gadgets That Also Do What They're Supposed To

A tennis ball launcher for your dog, a solar panel-like charger for your phone, and a pink coffee machine just for you.

1. An air purifier, a must-have for any pet owners who spend all of their time snuggling up with their furry friend. This lil' gadget will capture unwanted pet dander, pollen, dust, and more.

Promising review: "I foster kittens for a rescue, and no matter how often I clean the boxes, two or three times daily, and general cleaning, I still have an odor in the room. I got this product out of desperation. It was a good size and weight for kitties bouncing around. I am truly shocked and enormously happy with how it works! My husband was at wits' end with his sensitive nose. He goes in there now and is astonished, no smell. We are getting another for the kitchen! The room is 10×10, and I use it one the two setting. I also enjoy the night light. Very helpful without disturbing sick sleepy babies recovering from illness." —victoria Mohagen

Get it from Amazon for $76.99 (available in two colors).

2. A pore vacuum that'll help you seriously suck all the gunk and grime out of your skin. You'll definitely be amazed — despite the reviewer photos that make me (and maybe you) gag.

It's designed for all skin types, thanks to its five different levels. Level one is for sensitive and dry skin, levels two and three are for neutral skin, and levels four and five are for mixed and oily skin. The set comes with four suction heads: for blackheads, removing dirt/grease, reducing dead skin buildup and fine lines, and tightening your skin. It's also rechargeable—they've thought of everything!

Promising review: "I honestly can't run out of great things to say about this! This blackhead remover works WONDERS I use it about once or twice a week and absolutely love it. It works very well, and I have seen a size reduction in my pores since using it for the past few weeks. I highly recommend this blackhead remover!" —Andrea

Get it from Amazon for $17.99+ (available in seven styles).

3. A culinary blow torch so you can *finally* make your own baked Alaska after watching various chefs do it on TV for years.

Promising review: "This mini torch is easy to use with an adjustable flame. It's not too fancy shmancy, but it's not expensive either. It does everything I need it to do including lighting candles that have burned too far down to reach with a match. (Although I know that's not its intent at all.) Unfortunately it doesn't arrive with butane; but once you fill it, it lasts a pretty long time!" —Vero

Get it from Amazon for $17.99.

4. A John Frieda hot brush for anyone who looooves to get pampered with a blow out but can't actually afford to get one every week.

Promising review: "I am not a paid person who writes reviews. In fact I usually don't write them at all. But let me start out by saying holy crap! This is amazing, not only was it so easy and fast... I have a salon blowout that actually looks great...and I never went to the salon! So I can't do my hair at all ever. The best I do is flat iron or messy bun, mkay? But I'm obsessed. When I go to the salon it looks great for two days and then bam I'm crying, 'cause I can't get my hair pretty like she did it, and now I hate it and myself. Sound familiar? Well I'm living proof this is amazing and it truly works. I won't lie I was hesitant because this looks and sound like crap/too good to be true. It's not!!! Happy buying — I'm buying another for my mom for Xmas how awesome!" —tangi raysor

Promising review: "I know everyone says this, but I REALLY don't usually write reviews — really! I generally order from Amazon and once the purchase arrives I forget about it. But this is truly a great item to have around. It's compact, has all the connections I need, has built-in wireless charging, supports micro SD cards so it can be used as storage, has a built-in light that's pretty bright — it's just so freakin' handy! I have an Echelon bike (and so do my in-laws!) and absolutely love it. The classes are super fun and engaging, the instructors are delightful and motivational, and the soundtracks for each class are fantastic. You can select your workout type (hills, speed, a mix of a variety of things) and the type of music you feel like sweating to (pop, '80s, '90s, rock, funk, hip hop, etc!). It's genuinely a nice community and a fun way to exercise!

Promising review: "Due to the pandemic that limits outdoor activities. I decided to look for an indoor cardio workout machine and end up getting the Echelon bike. To my surprise assembly was a snap and performance was a five star. During operation the bike performs so quietly making it a perfect fit for our needs specially living in an apartment building. I definitely recommend this bike for cardio enthusiasts and for active individuals seeking for a gym-worthy bike offering a different degree of workout." —Cris

Promising review: "I don’t know who has more fun, my dog or me. LOL. I’ve used this for fetch every day for over a week now. It’s a ton of fun! I like that you can pick the ball up with the end of the gun. It saves your back and while my dog isn’t a slobber hound like others I’ve had...it’s nice you don’t have to touch the ball after it’s dog slimed. Get the mini model for small tennis balls and the large gun shoots conventional size tennis balls! Get it! You and your dog will thank me!" —workoutnut2010

8. And a rechargeable light necklace to toss around their neck before heading out on a walk at dusk — no need to stress about your leash-less pup getting lost in the dark. I can also see this being great for anyone who lets their dog roam around a big backyard at night.

a green glowing collar
a reviewer's dog with a pink glowing collar

Promising review: "These are amazing!! I’ve tried numerous light up collars and this is by far THE best!! It is essentially a long, clear tube that you cut down to size to fit your dog’s neck. No worrying about which size to order. I cut mine so I can easily slip it off and on. The ends plug into the little light, which then shines throughout the tubing. It’s like a big halo of light around your doggo’s neck. I keep mine on solid but you can also change it to slow or fast flash. I use it every night when I take my dog out and then all weekend when we go camping. It’s such a hit our whole camping group ordered one! Now at night we have different colored circles running around the campsite so we know who is who and where they are. I like red for my dog. The green is really bright. Blue and purple are nice too. Orange is okay but I’m not a big fan of the color ;) Oh and these hold a charge forever. I think I charge it back up maybe once a month. If he wears it all weekend I might have to charge it up when we get home. Buy one, buy many. Give them to your friends." —Tiffany Beyer

Get it from Amazon for $15.99 (available in five colors).

9. A Baby Yoda night-light that, for lack of a better term, will become the *light of your life*.

I am admittedly obsessed with "the Child" and can't get enough of him. That includes letting him reign over my bathroom at night in the form of the night-light.

Promising review: "My children love this in their room at night. It is not too bright. It has a very low, warm light which is just enough for them to see if they need to get up at night to use the restroom, but not bright enough that it keeps them awake." —chocolate*bella

I'm obsessed with candles, so it was a no-brainer for my husband to gift me this surprisingly super-fun gadget. It's really simple to use and charge, and it really works! I'll never have to buy another lighter again. My first charge lasted me seven months!

Promising review: "This is seriously the coolest device of my winter holiday. It makes lighting candles a breeze. Yes, there is a weird crackling noise, but that's a super-minor annoyance. It's a super-intuitive device. Plus the lighter with the USB (included), charge for a bit, then pop it open and light ALL THE THINGS; well, candles. I don't know how well it lights cigarettes or whatever. However, for my personal intended use, it's awesome!" —Jee W.

11. A pack of super-strong magnets you can attach to the top of your fridge to ensure your drink of choice is *always* refreshingly cold without taking up space for leftovers.

Promising review: "Of all the things I have bought that I didn't need, this is one of my favorites. Beer is hard to get out of the cardboard carrier in the top of my fridge. While just taking them out and sitting them on the shelf would have solved this problem as well, this solution is more fun. They float and technically it does make a tiny bit of extra space under the beer for small things like cheese or something." —AbbyValentine

This diffuser has a whopping 51.7K 5-star reviews from VERY pleased Amazon customers. If that isn't a sign to pick this up, what is? You might as well go ahead and add this set of essential oils to your cart while you're at it (lavender is my personal favorite).

Promising review: "This is a really great diffuser, especially for a first-timer like myself. It's small and simple, and also succeeds in freshening up my entire room. The 30-second burst is great at keeping your space feeling and smelling great throughout the day, while the continuous mode lasts for about six hours so I keep it on while I'm sleeping. Overall, a really great and inexpensive diffuser!" —Pascal Ibe

Get it from Amazon for $13.99+ (available in four styles).

14. A wall charger with six outlets and two USB ports in case you've managed to gather as many gadgets and gizmos as Ariel in The Little Mermaid and will want them charged at all times.

I have this outlet set up in my bathroom and it's great! I'm able to keep my source of music plugged in(who doesn't enjoy a shower dance party?) even when I'm using my straightener or curling iron. It's a helpful nightlight at night so when I inevitably get up to pee I don't have to wince at the overhead lights.

Promising review: "I work from home in a small apartment, and this really made my setup work the way I want it to. I need to use all six plugs; plus, I like to keep my phone and MiFi charging while working too. This was the perfect thing for me to get everything plugged in and essentially retrofitted into a built-in apartment wall desk setup that was intended for the large desktop towers of the late '90s. I’m ordering a second one in hopes it transforms another part of my weird floor plan. Bonus: The USB ports seem to fast-charge my iPhone XS Max. I can go from dead to fully charged in about 90 minutes." —Moose

Get it from Amazon for $16.97.

15. Or an ultra thin electrical cover so you can finally enjoy full access to the outlet behind your dresser — plug this bad boy in and *poof* you'll have not one, not two, but SIX new outlets at your disposal.

Promising review: "The design of this is great. I always hated putting plugs behind furniture and either not using the plug, or the furniture being inches away from the wall. This is the perfect solution. I have a few of these now behind couches and dressers in the house and they are great. This is more expensive than some other flat extension cords but I think the look and quality of these is worth it." —Adam C.

Get it from Amazon for $24.95.

Promising review: "I've had this device for a little while now and I absolutely love it! Light detector and motion detector work together to only turn the toilet light on when it senses darkness and movement. I love that there are 16 different colors you can choose from; and with each of the 16 colors, you can raise or lower the brightness, which kind of makes color choices even bigger if you consider the different color brightness a new color. You can either leave your toilet light cycling through all 16 colors while on, or you have the option of choosing one of the colors and keeping it on that color. I ended up getting two of these toilet lights for both of my bathrooms and my guest's as well as I love it." —Sergio Rios

The Quest has been a great way for me to have a good time interacting with my loved ones without feeling overwhelmed by TOO much chatter. The red switches are more linear, the aqua switches are more tactile, and the blue switches are more click-y. You can learn more about all of the switch options here.

Promising review: "I had no idea a keyboard could be this amazing. Disclaimer, yes I'm a first time mechanical user switching from a standard Logitech membrane. I tried this HyperX board next. And wow! The typing feels like nothing I've ever experienced. I got the aqua switches. The software opens and is pretty much self explanatory. I already started making macros for Photoshop and making certain keys different colors so they stand out. And one more 'wow' for the brightness and clarity. This is so awesome. Maitland Quitmeyer / BuzzFeed

My fellow BuzzFeed editor Maitland Quitmeyer loves this thing. Here's what she had to say:

"The acne scars on my cheeks from a series of breakouts are fading fast, and I get new acne very rarely — they're more like a pimple here and there occasionally when I have to fly somewhere (curse you, dry airplanes) or get stressed or.... who even knows why my skin freaks out sometimes. Never thought I'd ever put a no-makeup selfie on the internet, but that's how much I love this thing."

The rowing machine is one of the things I miss the most from the gym — the Hydrow Rowing Machine seems like the perfect way to fill the void. This machine has a full screen attached to it that'll provide an immersive experience to make anyone feel like they're *really* chopping water while breaking a swear. It can be used with or without a subscription, making it a great gift option.

Promising review: "I own a Peloton bike and I use it regularly. The biggest issue with the bike is that it's almost all quad. Your upper leg is working like crazy and the cardio is really intense. The problem with the bike is that it doesn't do the rest of your body. I bought the Hydrow to try to get a full body workout and it's really great. You're effectively doing a squat, crunch and push up each time you row. When it's over you really feel as though you've worked out your entire body. The classes are great too. You see the instructor on the screen and you're mirroring them, so when they go fast so do you. I took a class yesterday and they were in Miami and there were dolphins in the open water. It was pretty neat. Anyway, it's nice to go stroke for stroke with them and it makes it a lot more enjoyable than a traditional rower. I love it and my family has been using it more than the Peloton." —David

Get it from Best Buy or Hydrow for $2,245.99.

34. A Baby Brezza formula dispensing machine to mix and warm bottles for your little one — it'll make those middle-of-the-night feeding sessions a bit more bearable for you both.

Baby Brezza

BuzzFeed editor John Mihaly swears by this gadget. He said:

"Listen, listen, listen. Without hyperbole, the Baby Brezza has been one of my best investments for year one in babyland. Late-night feeds no longer become about fumbling, spilling, mixing, warming, and minutes later delivering a so-so bottle to a crying child. No, in seconds a measured and warm concoction is in hand and then in baby's mouth. Just add water to the tank and formula to the dispenser and serve bottles ranging between 2-10 ounces warmed to three different temperatures. The time, effort, and stress this wonderful machine has saved me from is emotionally immeasurable and worth the price tag. It even forces you to clean it after every four uses because that formula gets gunky and you get lazy."

Promising review: "I never had any intentions of purchasing the Owlet until after we brought our daughter home and had a scare due to reflux! The next day we drove 30 minutes away to purchase it. I have slept so much better since. We have not received false notifications except the occasional 'check placement' when baby was kicking a little too much. The solution to this is we just place normal socks on her feet and it stops that from happening! I would purchase this product over and over and would recommend it to everyone! It helps us sleep so much better, especially when baby came down with a cold and was super congested. The Owlet assured me her oxygen was 100% and the same day in the doctor's office their machine read 100% as well. It’s great knowing my babe is sleeping safe at night!" —Mommy27
