Former first minister of Scotland Alex Salmond has been charged with two attempted rapes and multiple sexual assaults.
He was filmed arriving at the Edinburgh Sheriff Court at around 2pm. He faces a total of fourteen charges, including indecent assault, sexual assault, attempted rape, and breach of the peace.
He made no formal plea in court. Outside, he said: "I refute absolutely these allegations of criminality, and I will defend myself to the utmost in court."
Salmond, former leader of the Scottish National Party, served as first minister from 2007 to 2014. He was interviewed by police on Wednesday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said on Thursday morning: "We can confirm a 64-year-old man has been arrested and charged and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal."
