The Gang Turns 13 This Year
First appearance: Season 1
Iconic quote: "I swear you would be of more use to me if I skinned you and turned your skin into a lampshade or fashioned you into a piece of high-end luggage."
Fun fact: The reason Glenn's character isn't named after himself, while Rob and Charlie's are, is that Howerton wanted to distance himself from "sociopath" Dennis as much as possible.
First appearance: Season 1
Iconic quote: "I do backflips every single day of my life."
Fun fact: The show came into existence based on a nightmare McElhenney had about a man with cancer and his insensitive friend, sparking the idea of this group of friends with virtually no moral compass or social awareness. The show's original pilot was a short film version of the episode "Charlie Has Cancer".
First appearance: Season 2
Iconic quote: "Can I offer you a nice egg in this trying time?"
Fun fact: One of the deciding factors for DeVito in joining the show was that his kids were huge Sunny fans (his daughter even cameos in one episode). DeVito ended up loving it so much he's stuck around ever since.
First appearance: Season 1
Iconic quote: " know, you light one bitch on fire and everybody freaks out."
Fun fact: Dee was originally written as the gang's "voice of reason" aka Sweet Dee. Olson thought that was boring and didn't want to play that part – she encouraged them to write scenes without thinking about gender.
First appearance: Season 1
Iconic quote: "I don't have online, though. I don't do, like, the e-mails."
Fun fact: As most people know, Ellis and Charlie Day are married IRL. The two started dating after Day swooped in at a bar to save Mary Elizabeth from having to talk to a drunken Irish guy. They pair previously worked together while they were still dating, when they played incestuous twins in Reno 911.
First appearance: Season 3
Iconic quote: "Any respect that you're feeling that is coming from is a mistake on your part."
First appearance: Season 2
Iconic quote: "Does my scar look like a dog's vagina?"
Fun fact: Hornsby has been a writer and producer on the show since the very beginning – he's essentially the orchestrator of Cricket's perpetual downfall.
First appearance: Season 6
Iconic quote: "As I transition from woman to cat, I must insist on being referred to as a cat."
First appearance: Season 1
Iconic quote: *gentle moaning*
Fun fact: The McPoyles are based on a real large family of the same name that Rob McElhenney knew while growing up in Philly. The real McPoyles are neither inbred or quite as terrifying.
