March 16' Favourites

A little bit of everything from the month of March

Posted on

1. ZHU - In the Morning / Via

I speak about ZHU's music in undoubtedly the same way ZHU creates his music - its pure sex. 'In the Morning' is deep, funky and promiscuously dark. You know, everything we have grown to love about the mysterious producer.

2. Michl - When You Loved Me Least / Via

I discovered this guy in late 2015 with his track 'Killed Our Way To Heaven' and he again has my tongue wagging with 'When You Loved Me Least'. Amazing sound design and soulful vocals make Michl one to keep tabs on.

3. Coldplay - Adventure Of A Lifetime (Yotto Remix) / Via

The name 'Yotto' is quickly becoming a month to month occurrence amongst my favourites. The rising star of deep house has completely restored my love for the genre, and his remix of Coldplay's 'Adventure Of A Lifetime' is yet another reason to climb aboard everything he is doing.

4. Kwabs - Cheating On Me (Tom Misch Refix feat. Zak Abel) / Via

I first came across the name Kwabs when he featured on Disclosure's album 'Caracal' lending his vocals on the banger 'Willing & Able'. 'Cheating On Me' is a tantalising piece of music, courtesy of a near gracious voice.

5. Boom Jinx & Aruna - Light As A Feather (Sunny Lax Remix) / Via

This track had me sold at Aruna & Sunny Lax. Aruna is in my top 3 vocalists when its comes to trance music, and Sunny Lax continues to parade the Anjunabeat's flag loud and proud.

6. Flight Facilities - Clair De Lune (Bifold's Aged Rework) / Via

File this under the '4am' section, BiFold have reworked this Flight Facilities track to near perfection. Nearly 3 years on finally hitting the release button, its still doing wonders for me.

7. MALAA - Fade / Via

MALAA is yet another mysterious producer to jump on board with (ZHU, Golden Features). The sound design of 'Fade' resembles the early workings of Golden Features, with a deep filthy bassline, There isn't a doubt in my mind that 'Fade' will be burning up dance floors (if it isn't already) soon enough.

8. Gallant - Bourbon / Via

Gallant is leading the pack, amongst a long list of seriously talented voices i discovered in 2015. He has graced us with some early music in 2016 with a track titled 'Bourbon' which is lyrically and vocally as on point with his 2015 hit 'Weight In Gold'.

9. Medasin - Motion / Via

One of the most talented up & coming producers in the game, this dude is no joke everywhere. Look amongst those being credited on similar sounding tracks and i have no doubt the name 'Medasin' will be appear.

10. TOKiMONSTA - Heart On The Ground (feat. Kiya Lacy) / Via

My love for TOKiMONSTA is track to track. I have never been one to buy into the hype around her, but this EP is doing some serious work for me. 'Heart On The Ground' has definitely struck a chord and is one of favourite tracks this month.

11. Elizabeth Rose - Steel Hearts / Via

Its only March, but i may have already found a track that come compiling my favourites for year - 'Steel Hearts' will very likely get a spot. This track is simple, but delicately complex and raw. 'Steel Hearts' is quite possibly the best i have heard Elizabeth sound (vocally), shedding light on an experience of shear heartbreak - its an emotional journey.

For me, great music comes from the heart, and 'Steel Hearts' is the epitome of it.

12. Axwell - Barricade / Via

Ok ok, this track gets excused for two reasons. I have long advocated my hate for Big Room, but this track is hard hitting from start to finish. Reason 1 - Its produced by a guy who knows a thing or two when it comes to producing great dance music and Reason 2, well, you need to experience this track in its full ferociousness live.

13. M83 - Do It, Try It

I am so excited for this next M83 release, 'Do It, Try It' draws upon everything we have grown to love about M83. Everything M83 produces has this attached nature of being absolutely 'epic' and 'Do It, Try It' very much does this statement justice.

14. TÂCHES x Eli & Fur - Lookalike / Via

This is dream filled collaboration for me. I have spoken about Eli & Fur before, and TÂCHES is absolute weapon. Combining the flair and creative genius of TÂCHES with deep vibes that Eli & Fur bring, 'Lookalike' is a tasteful early morning treat.

15. ODIE - Too Late (prod. Blanda) / Via

One of a long list of up & coming producers, acts and artists i follow on SoundCloud. There is just so much talent and amazing music out there just waiting to be discovered and i am so thankful for being able to find it. In the SoundCloud community these guys are wizards, so here's to shedding more light onto untapped talent.

16. Young Franco - Drop Your Love (ft DiRTY RADiO) / Via

Your boy Young Franco has dropped more then love here, 'Drop Your Love' is an absolute bomb!

17. Claptone - (Pool Deck) Holy Ship! 2016 Live Set / Via

I try to refrain from posting sets here, but i simply cannot get enough of this one. Claptone (if he wasn't already) is fast becoming one of the biggest names in house music and his set at Holy Ship! proves it. Please do us both a favour and suss out his debut album 'Charmer' its crazy good!

18. Miike Snow - Genghis Khan

Upon the release of 'iii' this track has received a belting amongst my playlists. I mean really, who doesn't love it little bit of 'Genghis Khan'.

19. Kaytranada - BUS RIDE (w/ Karriem Riggins & River Tiber) / Via

The man, the myth, the legend, this creative genius is a much loved figure amongst a lot of circles in music. I am not alone in being damn hyped for his next release with 'BUS RIDE' a snippet of what we can only expect to be another creative masterpiece.

19. Human Movement - 5am (Panteros666 - Club Cheval Remix)

One of my favourite dance acts at the moment - Human Movement, have been remixed by Bromance tech don Panteros666. Its a match made in techno heaven.

Refer to the review i posted about this amazing remix.

20. Baauer - Sow

I had hopes for this 'AA', but nothing like this!

This is pushing and channeling those Mr. Carmack vibes and its absolutely refreshing to see how creative trap don Baauer can be.

21. Kyau & Albert - About The Sun

Channeling the Kyau & Albert of old (circa 'Are You Fine'), its so great to fall back in love with one of finest trance acts around. I praise Kyau & Albert with introducing me to the genre of trance and 'About The Sun' proves these guys have still got it.

22. SBTRKT - REVERT (feat. The-Dream)

How can you not love everything this dude does. An absolute creative genius, quite literally. SBTRKT knows how to create more then just music, rather, its a vision. 'REVERT' is easily the best track from his latest release titled 'SAVE YOURSELF'.

23. Baauer - Pinku

Near flawless sound design, in a time where dance music is somewhat cookie cutter AF, 'Pinku' is a progressive wet groove. Its almost like, "Hey Baauer, where have you been hiding with this nek level creative genus?"

24. Flogging Molly - The Hand Of John L. Sullivan

An acquired taste, thats how i best describe Flogging Molly. The Irish outfit were one of the best things about heading to Soundwave way back in 2013, and hopefully you can see why. Amongst this new release titled 'The Hand Of John L. Sullivan' i highly recommend checking out songs 'Drunken Lullabies' and 'Devil's Dance Floor'.
