25 Times Hollywood Cast The Perfect Person To Play The Live-Action Version Of An Animated Character

    All Cinderella casts are perfect.

Recently, we asked the BuzzFeed Community what actor was PERFECTLY cast as the live-action version of an animated or comic character. Here are some of the best!

    1. Jim Carrey as The Grinch in How The Grinch Stole Christmas...

Courtesy Everett Collection, Universal / courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by: carissa_dawson

It's hard to imagine anyone else playing this iconic role. The mannerisms, movements, and expressions Carey brings to the table for any acting role truly shine here, and he makes the classic grumpy character SO MUCH more fun.

    2. ...And Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who in the same film

Courtesy Everett Collection, Universal / courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by: ljoane

It's funny to think of Taylor playing Cindy Lou Who — you might remember her as Jenny from Gossip Girl, or from her rock band, The Pretty Reckless. Still, she proved her singing chops early with this role, and was perfectly adorable as the beloved Christmas character.

    3. Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmations

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection, Buena Vista Pictures/ Courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by hummingbirdbubble03

Glenn Close is truly one of the best actors of our generation. She is so wonderfully over-the-top and delightful even as an evil character we really do not empathize with — you can tell how much fun she's having, and it's impossible not to have it too.

    4. The entire cast of Scooby-Doo...

Warner Brothers / courtesy Everett Collection, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment / courtesy Everett Collection

"Literally the whole cast of the live-action Scooby Doo was *chef’s kiss* perfection."

    emmaa4c674da1e

    5. ...but especially Matthew Lillard as Shaggy

Warner Brothers. Courtesy Everett Collection., Courtesy Everett Collection

"Matthew Lillard’s Shaggy deserves to be on the list as well for obvious reasons."

    marianasauce

    6. Katee Sackhoff as Bo Katan in The Mandalorian

    Disney+ / Courtesy Everett Collection, Disney+

    Sugested by: passivesloth

Katee actually voiced the character in the animated series Clone Wars as well! So this was a great casting decision. The costuming, hair, and makeup were also perfect.

    7. Elizabeth Lail and Georgina Haig as Anna and Elsa in Once Upon a Time

    Disney, ABC

"Elizabeth Lail as Frozen’s Princess Anna on Once Upon a Time was so cute!"

    tobybuck44

"Georgina Haig as Elsa in Once Upon A Time...she’s so perfect. She looks the part, her voice is similar, and she’s so good at conveying Elsa’s complex emotions."

    eivor1612

    8. ...And Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White in the same show

Walt Disney Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection, ABC

"Ginnifer Goodwin was honestly the best Snow White ever cast. It broke the little innocent girl persona of the character and turned her more into a badass who doesn’t take crap from anybody."

    teamleo2020

    9. Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in Maleficent

Walt Disney Co. / courtesy Everett Collection, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by tkinney9

Let's face it, without Jolie, these movies would be just another Disney live-action with pretty sets, costumes, and effects, but not much else to it. Jolie brings so much more dimension to a character we grew up hating, and she carries these films on her back.

    10. Cate Blanchett in Cinderella (2015)...

Walt Disney/ Courtesy Everett Collection, Jonathan Olley/©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

"They [Angelina Jolie and Cate Blanchett] are so good at portraying both sides of the villain."

    dauntlesschristina

    11. ...As well as Lily James as Cinderella in the same film...

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection, Jonathan Olley/©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

"Lily was absolutely enchanting, and she actually made me love Cinderella. I was not a fan of the animated version, but I’ll watch Lily’s portrayal over and over again."

    ara92092

    12. ...and Richard Madden as Prince Charming

Disney, Jonathan Olley/Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

"Lily James and Richard Madden in Cinderella. They were perfect for their roles. Their chemistry was magnificent. For me they are the best couple of Disney’s live-actions!"

    himemoonpie

"The chemistry between Ella and Kit is just so good."

    marianasauce

    13. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the MCU

Fox Kids, Jay-Maidment / Columbia Pictures / Marvel Studios/ Courtesy Everett Collection

"Before he was cast in the MCU, the Ultimate Universe comics’ version of the character was actually based on Sam Jackson."

    athena98

    14. Peter Dinklage as Simon Barsinister in Underdog

Mary Evans/AF Archive/Everett Collection, Walt Disney Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

"Pretty much every live-action movie based on a Jay Ward cartoon has been terrible, but with excellently-cast villains."

    josephaloysiusc

    15. Jeremy Sumpter as Peter Pan in Peter Pan (2003)

Walt Disney. Courtesy Everett Collection, Universal / courtesy Everett Collection

"The live-action Peter Pan is so magical and charming and a lot of it is because he captured the part of Peter Pan so well!"

    ktk8895

    16. Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland

Walt Disney Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection File SizePixel 5.97" h, Walt Disney Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

"She was the person I thought of when I watched the animated version, and when she was cast, I was thrilled."

    djonellsamara

    17. ...and Matt Lucas as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum in the same film

Walt Disney Studios / Courtesy Everett Collection, Walt Disney Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

"I thought Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland casting was pretty spot on (the movie not so much), but especially Matt Lucas as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. He's always a joy to watch."

    ljoane

    18. Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella (1997)...

Walt Disney Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection, Neal Preston / ABC /Courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by: treemae91

Whitney Houston was amazing in anything she did, but this role in particular has a special spot in many's hearts. She added so much pizazz to the original character and her songs were on point.

    19. ...and Brandy as Cinderella in the same film

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection, ABC /Courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by: treemae91

Brandy's songs were also amazing, and she gave a pretty two-dimensional character SO much more life and personality while keeping Cinderella the sweet, graceful underdog we know and love.

    20. Emma Watson as Belle in Beauty and the Beast

    Disney

"I think she really brought her to life and gave her more personality than in the original cartoon."

    shanonono

    21. Naomi Scott as Jasmine in Aladdin (2019)...

Walt Disney Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection, Daniel Smith / © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by: emmasutton2002

While nothing beats the original Aladdin, Naomi Scott did a beautiful job with one of our fave strong-willed Disney heroines. Her song "Speechless" was a highlight of the film.

    22. ...And Mena Massoud as Aladdin in the same film

Walt Disney/ Courtesy: Everett Collection, Daniel Smith / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by: megana459810788

Again, it's hard to top the original Aladdin, but Mena is perfectly charming in this role as the charming thief-turned-prince, and he certainly did nothing to diminish the continued lust over arguably the best Disney prince.

    23. Danny Devito as The Penguin in Batman Returns

CBS, Warner Bros. / Courtesy: Everett Collection

    Suggested by lumos47

You may think of Devito as an actor more suited to comedy, but Tim Burton's Batman sequel was actually pretty serious. For his role as the disturbed villain, Danny was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor.

    24. Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash in The Flash

DC Universe / Courtesy Everett Collection, Katie Yu/ The CW / courtesy Everett Collection

    Suggested by ixc15

Grant does such a wonderful job of leading the far lighter Arrow spinoff. He (along with Jesse L. Martin in the role as Joe) bring an earnesty and heart to the series that really just hits home.

    25. And finally, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in Iron Man

Marvel, Zade Rosenthal/Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection

"It was as if he stepped right out of the comic books."

    tonyc007

"Iron Man is literally Robert Downey Jr. No one else could play Iron Man that perfectly. Period."
