19 Little White Lies Movies Tricked You Into Believing

TIL it was so hot while filming It's a Wonderful Life that they had to take a day off for heat exhaustion.

We asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us the tricks, lies, and dupes their favorite movies have pulled on them — here are some of their (and our) responses!

    1. The leg in the poster for The Graduate doesn't actually belong to Anne Bancroft, who played Mrs. Robinson, but actor/model Linda Gray. She was paid $25.

    2. John Dugan was only 20 when he played Grandpa Sawyer in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

    3. That isn't Reese Witherspoon's hair at the start of Legally Blonde. Witherspoon was busy filming The Importance of Being Earnest, so they used a double.

    4. Remember that airplane scene in Argo, when they're chased as they take off? Yeah, that never happened. Everything went smoothly.

    5. Thomas Brodie-Sangster may have looked like a little kid in Love Actually, but he was actually 13 when the movie came out.

    6. And Ralph Macchio was 22 when he filmed The Karate Kid.

    7. The classic Christmas film It's a Wonderful Life was filmed in June. It was so hot that the cast and crew had to be given a day off due to heat exhaustion.

    8. According to his partner Jim Hutton, Freddie Mercury actually didn't know he had AIDS until two years after Live Aid, when in the film Bohemian Rhapsody, Mercury finds out before the concert.

    9. Also, that's not (just) Rami singing! They mixed his voice with tapes of Freddie Mercury and the similar-sounding Marc Martel.

    10. Similarly, in Selena, they used recordings of Selena's voice instead of having J.Lo sing.

    11. And in West Side Story, Marni Nixon provided the singing voice for Maria, instead of the actor who actually played Maria, Natalie Wood.

    12. Loren Allred provided the voice for Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman, not Rebecca Ferguson, who played Jenny.

    13. Pocahontas was literally a child when the fully adult John Smith met her and there's no record of them having a romantic relationship.

    14. While Titanic was based on the real tragedy, Jack and Rose were completely made up.

    15. Babe was not played by a singular pig in Babe, but rather 46 different pigs.

    16. While Hilary Duff appeared as both Isabella and Lizzie in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, her sister Haylie actually sang Isabella's parts.

    17. That's not Natalie Portman kissing Chris Hemsworth at the end of Thor: The Dark World; it's actually Hemsworth's wife, Elsa Pataky.

    18. In Back to the Future Part II, that's not just similar-looking actors playing Marty's family. Michael J. Fox played old Marty, Marty Jr., and Marlene.

    19. And finally, that's not just one kid playing Julian in Big Daddy. Dylan and Cole Sprouse shared the role.
