50 "Friends" Outfits That Were So '90s
SO. MANY. VESTS.
Friends is an iconic show for many reasons. I mean, we've got SO MANY classic one-liners, a wild amount of famous guest stars, "The Rachel," and "Smelly Cat."
But who can forget the fashion of the show?? Every time I watch it, I am completely transported to the '90s. For your viewing pleasure, I have compiled a list of the most '90s fashion moments on
This oversized acid wash denim vest over an acid wash button up.
And I haven't even gotten to the pigtails...
This flower sheer sweater vest and barettes:
Phoebe honestly had the most iconic '90s hair.
This grandpa sweater, rhinestone barette, yellow shirt, and low waisted jeans combo:
This kilt, sweater, and high socks combo:
I would still wear this, except for the high socks. Is she planning on playing lacrosse??
This tank top over a T-shirt:
This is honestly A Look™️ that has lasted way past the '90s. I personally feel she looks a bit like a grandma, but...yeah.
This structured brown leather jacket over a turtleneck.
I don't know why anyone thought leather tuxedo jackets were a good idea.
This bandanna and bright T-shirt over a daisy print long-sleeve.
I swear I had some version of this shirt when I was little.
These grandma sweaters:
I don't know where we got our sweaters in the '90s. Filene's Basement?? Our grandma's closets?? Goodwill?? The world will never know.
This massive corduroy jacket.
Why was everything Ross wore 10 sizes too big?
This plaid shirt and gelled hair combo:
You didn't think I wouldn't mention plaid shirts, did you? This was an essential of the '90s!
The first of many overalls on this list.
You can also spot "The Rachel" in this pic.
This fuzzy top with pink cheetah print pants:
I had a pink cheetah print nightgown when I was little that I wore literally EVERY night.
This button-up tied into a belly shirt:
Don't pretend like you didn't copy this trend after you saw the "Hit Me Baby One More Time" music video.
Another bright printed shirt and chunk necklace:
This shirt is half modern art painting, half '80s game show graphics.
Joey's tight high neck short sleeve shirt tucked into his jeans:
And the hair!! We LOVED getting bangs then gelling them so you could see every strand.
These suspenders and khakis:
The stringy bangs strike again!!!
This USA shirt paired with tights and high-waisted shorts:
This outfit is honestly cute and I would 100% wear it. But...why did we wear such random graphic tees? I had a shirt that said "All Aboard" when I was a kid. What did that mean???
Another pair of overalls:
These ones are special because the top isn't fastened; it's just hanging down over her crotch. I guess it's easier to go to the bathroom that way?
This oversized sweater, long necklace, and long skirt:
Let's not forget the scrunchie!!!
Monica's long paisley puff sleeve dress:
Is it weird that I kind of miss paisley?
This qipao, which would *
probably* not be worn today:
Although "The Rachel" is looking great here!
The second of MANY jean vests on this list:
I also don't think I've seen anyone wear nylons in a decade or two.
Aaand the first of many vests on Chandler:
I swear it's like Chandler had a uniform or something.
AND the first of many velvet dresses.
This is honestly my favorite outfit on the list so far. We need to bring velvet back in!! I don't care that it's summer!
This long yellow dress paired with a large flower necklace:
Sometimes I feel like we just wore fabric sacks in the '90s.
This gray camo v-neck (a trend that unfortunately continued into the 2000s):
And yet another long dress over a long-sleeve:
But unlike the last one, this actually looks good (Sorry, Monica).
This red tank top paired with mom jeans:
This is honestly another one of my favorite outfits on the list. I had to give Monica a win here. An influencer would 100% wear this today.
And another pair of overalls!
This one is even MORE '90s than the last two because Rachel tied a sweatshirt around her waist. Remember those dark days in the 2000s when it wasn't cool to tie your sweatshirt around your waist and you just had to carry it???
And another denim vest. :(
I'm just going to say it: Vests are terrible and I hope they never come back in style.
This sweater that I'm pretty sure one of the kids in
Harry Potter wore:
I think Mrs. Weasley knit this for him.
This crop top with high-waisted loose striped pants:
This is another outfit I feel like is back in style now. But...it also kind of looks like PJs.
This material is somehow
worse than the denim, which is saying a lot.
This wedding dress:
Between the beads and the halter...just no. I'm sorry, Monica.
This fringe vest Phoebe wore:
I can't decide if she's going to Woodstock or Coachella.
And this turtleneck with a button-up dress over it:
I spy some wispy bangs again!! Luckily, this time they're not gelled.
Another vest from Chandler. :(
Please make it stop. What is that vest providing you, Chandler? It's neither warmth nor fashion.
This sleeveless plaid button-up tied into a crop top:
So many words I just wrote SCREAM '90s.
This oversized sweater Monica wore:
Okay, this one was DEFINITELY from
This oversized vest and button-up Phoebe wore:
Did she get the vest from Chandler?? Why does she look like a substitute art teacher??
Phoebe's velvet dress:
And her choker!! Also whatever is going on with her hair!!
This strapless dress Rachel wore:
This is almost 2000s except for the embroidery. You gotta love the slit and the pattern, though.
This skirt that looks like the print of the water in Bikini Bottom:
And, of course, the denim shirt tied into a crop top.
Joey's turtleneck and hair:
How did he get it to look so perfect?
This scrunchie, layered necklace, dress-over-a-loose-top lewk:
So much is going on here.
Another pair of overalls:
Phoebe LOVED gelled back ponytails, where her hair after the elastic stuck in every direction.
This low waisted pleated skirt, high boots, and nylons combo:
This is another lewk that lasted into the 2000s. Sad!
This long sleeve see-through top and trousers.
have to give an honorable mention to Phoebe's fur trim cardigan and feather hair elastics.
This maxi dress and crochet vest:
Phoebe INVENTED bohemian fashion.
And finally, whatever is going on here:
