No one can beat Matthew Lillard as Shaggy.

I love seeing my favorite cartoons turned into live-action shows and films.* It's so cool to see which actors are cast to play the beloved characters, and how the hair and makeup teams transform them! Below are some of my favorites:

5. Cruella de Vil in One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) and 101 Dalmatians (1996)

Glenn Close IS Cruella de Vil. Except, you know, not evil.

6. Elsa in Once Upon a Time and Frozen

Georgina Haig did a great job as Elsa, but it was really the hair, costuming, and makeup teams that made this casting work.

8. Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966) and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Taylor Momsen (of Gossip Girl and The Pretty Reckless) was an adorable Cindy Lou Who. She captured Cindy's innocent sweetness so well!

I know this is probably cheating because Jim Carrey was covered in makeup...but his facial expressions alone made him the perfect casting for the Grinch.

All John Goodman needed was a wig to become Fred Flinstone.

11. Madeline in Madeline (1993–2001) and Madeline (1998)

Was anyone else obsessed with Madeline when they were younger? I was, and I never even knew about the live-action version! But Hatty Jones looks like she fits the part perfectly.

12. Jem in Jem (1989–1992) and Jem and the Holograms (2015)

This was mostly the hair and makeup, and the movie was trash, but still, Aubrey Peeples looks totally like Jem above.

13. Christopher Robin in Winnie the Pooh (2011) and Christopher Robin (2018)

Orton O'Brien was a great Christopher Robin, albeit a brief one.

14. Mr. Crocker in The Fairly OddParents (2001–2017) and A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! (2011)

David Lewis's hair was perfect!

15. Mowgli in The Jungle Book (1967) and The Jungle Book (2016)

This is another example of the hair team really getting it right, but Neel Sethi was great in this film too!

Elizabeth Perkins beat all your parents who were Wilma Flinstone for Halloween.

17. Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty (1959) and Maleficent (2014)

Angelina Jolie's cheekbones are the real star of Maleficent.

18. Kim in Kim Possible (2002–2007) and Kim Possible (2019)

Sadie Stanley was super cute as Kim Possible, even if this live-action version wasn't all we'd hoped it would be.

19. Dora in Dora the Explorer (2000–present) and Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)

Isabela Moner portrayed a teenager Dora perfectly.

20. Mulan in Mulan (1998) and Mulan (2020)

I can't wait to see Liu Yifei as Mulan when the film finally comes out!

21. Olive Oyl in The All New Popeye Hour (1978–1983) and Popeye (1980)

CBS, Paramount Pictures

Find me someone who looks more like Olive Oyl than Shelley Duvall.

22. And finally, Tarzan in Tarzan (1999) and The Legend of Tarzan (2016)

Disney, Warner Bros. Pictures

Alexander Skarsgård is unrecognizable as Tarzan. Props to the hair and makeup team and his workout regimen!
