Growing up, most young people keep more than a few secrets from their parents. Those secrets may be brought to light as the kids grow up, but some secrets carry over into adulthood.
Perhaps you will never tell your parents that it was actually you and your friends who vandalized your high school principal's house when you were teenagers. No one ever got caught, and no one ever fessed up. You know your parents would still be very upset with you if they found out, but you don't regret your choices. Your principal actively harassed students and made them uncomfortable, but your parents don't believe in disrespecting authority figures and would notttt react well.
Maybe you will never tell your parents that you got arrested during a protest while you were in college and ended up spending a night in jail. They are vehemently opposed to your political beliefs, and they would likely blow up on you if they learned you got arrested.
Or, perhaps you'll never tell your parents that you work as a sugar baby to make money outside of your day job. They always wonder how you can afford to take so many trips, but you lie and tell them your friends are super wealthy and help pay your way. They can never know the truth.
