I Tried CBD Products To Help With My Period Symptoms, And WOW

My periods will never be the same.

Hi there! My name's Hannah, and every month, I am visited by my best friend/mortal enemy, Aunt Flo.

Whenever my PMS kicks into gear, I tend to hunker down with my heating pad, some Ibuprofen, and a few of my favorite snacks to get through the madness. But, given the days of cramps, body aches, headaches, and mood swings, sometimes I'm in need of something more.

I decided to try out some CBD products to see if they could help me manage my symptoms.

CBD, short for Cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in hemp. Though it comes from the same plant as THC, it won't get you stoned. People consume CBD for a number of reasons, such as improved sleep, anxiety, and some forms of pain relief — just to name a few.

Go Away, I'm Fizzy Bath Bomb from Betoken — $14.95

Hand holding a bath bomb

This luscious bath bomb contained 25mg of full spectrum hemp extract and an essential oil blend with lavender, geranium, and jasmine. It smelled like HEAVEN.

So, I hopped in the bath!

A bath bomb fizzing, next to legs in the bath

Full disclosure, I've only ever used two other bath bombs in my life. I'm usually not a big fan of baths. But, when my PMS cramps hit this month, I knew I had this bath bomb on standby. This was the most relaxing bath I have ever taken. This bath bomb genuinely relaxed my ENTIRE body. I did not want to get out. My aches and pains went away within 20 minutes, and my entire body felt like happy Jell-O. My pain went from about a 6, to totally nonexistent. My cramps were gone for the rest of the day. I could get used to this.

Revive CBD Body Balm, TheraOne by Theragun — $75.00

Body balm with CBD

This balm contains 835 mg of CBD and smells like eucalyptus and peppermint. After years of sitting at a desk in school, then moving to a desk job, it's no surprise that I have some serious neck and back problems. Of course, these pains are only exasperated during PMS. After a few hours at the computer, I ache from fingers to shoulder blades. I get a lot of tension and burning in my biceps and triceps, so I started rubbing this balm on those sore spots, and it works miracles. It helped my pain go from about an 7, to probably a 3. Those dull aches and tense spots are hard to totally avoid after hours at my desk, but this is a start. I don't know what kind of sorcery this is, but I like it. I'm obsessed.

Relief, Plz. CBD Patch by Fleur Marché — $6.00

CBD patch

I often put patches on my back to help with the pain, but I had never tried a CBD patch. I decided to put this on my back a couple of hours before bed after a long day of back pain. This was a bad day for my back — so bad that it truly hurt to sit. We're talking a 9 out of 10 for pain. I felt the peppermint activate within 15 or so minutes. Then, after about an hour, I noticed a substantial decrease in pain. I woke up the next morning with virtually no pain in my back at ALL. I wish I had a hundred of these. It was probably the most effective pain relief patch I have ever tried. If you deal with any severe pain in your back, legs, or arms, I think this patch is worth a shot!

Not This Month PMS Cream from Betoken — $42.95

Tube of PMS pain relief cream

This stuff kicks cramps right in the ass! It has such a soothing smell, and its super calming to applying. I rubbed a bit on my lower tummy during my most uncomfortable, cramp-filled days. To be fair, I took some Ibuprofen when the pain was super strong, but I do think this salve provided extra relief and relaxation. I tried this on a day when my cramps were more of a pesky dull ache than truly debilitating, but it definitely made my pain go from about a 5 to a 2. I'm really glad to have something so effective with such natural ingredients. I'd be curious to see if this cream could help with other body aches. I tend to get pain in my knees during my period, so next cycle I will try applying this to my knees as well!

Hello Mello Chill Pills from Betoken — $49.95

Bottle of Chill Pill capsules

I took one of these capsules when I was feeling anxious and overwhelmed during one work afternoon. I was worried they would make me feel sluggish or tired, but that wasn't the case at all. I felt a genuine mood boost, without any accompanying drowsiness. It's hard to tell if I experienced the placebo effect, or if I really genuinely had a change in demeanor. Either way, they made me feel better during an afternoon where I was emotional and just not my self, so I'm grateful. Next time my time of the month rolls around, I think I will go ahead and pop one of these on my heaviest day (hello, day two!), just to get ahead of my anxiety and potential mood swings.

Nighty Night Sleep Tight Capsules from Betoken — $49.95

Hemp capsules in a bottle

So, here's some honesty for ya — I do have an anxiety disorder. So, sleep doesn't always come easy for me. I notoriously get in my own head before bed, and it can be really hard to quiet the racing thoughts. This is especially bad during my time of the month when all my emotions are just below the surface. On one particularly anxious night, I tried my first capsule. While I waited for it to kick in, I aimlessly scrolled through TikTok and tried to stay distracted. About 30 minutes later, I noticed that my eyes started to droop and I kept rewatching the same video over and over. I put my phone down and was out like a light. I've tried these capsules three other times since, and have had similar results. It's not something I plan on relying on to fall asleep all the time, but it's nice to know I have it when I need it.

Sandland Fall Asleep CBN tabs — $15.00, and Stay Asleep CBN pills — $20.00

Two boxes of CBN capsules for falling asleep

If you're looking to fall asleep fast and STAY asleep, these are the ticket. I'd never heard of CBN before, so I did some research. Essentially, CBN, or Cannabinol, is a non-intoxicating compound that is created when THC ages. A lot of users ingest CBN to help with sleep. I passed the heck out, y'all. Rather than lie in bed awake for an unnecessary amount of time, I decided to take these bad boys before bedtime and let them do their thing. And, they did. I think it only took me about half an hour to fully drift off, but as I got sleepy, I lost track of time. I can't complain!

I am SO glad I decided to give these products a try during my time of the month! I really didn't think I was going to have such positive results. They helped make a shitty week feel a bit less shitty! I will absolutely be keeping these on hand for my next period. I may even branch out and try CBD oil or gummies as well, just to see if various products lead to different results. I would absolutely recommend trying CBD out if you're experiencing pesky PMS symptoms. They bring a sense of peace and relief that is so needed during such a stressful time.
