Do You Think These Slightly Controversial Scenes Should Have Made The Cut In These Movies?

Let's talk about the flying car in Grease.

Scenes get cut from movies all the time, so it’s safe to say that the ones we see on the big screen have been kept in for good reason.

But there are some moments that divide viewers – sometimes they feel different in tone, sometimes they don’t add too much to the plot, or sometimes they just feel a bit too random.

Well, it’s time to see if you think these highly debated scenes made senses for the movies, or should have been left on the cutting room floor!

When Ginny fed Harry a mince pie in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.

This scene oozes awkwardness, which is one of the main reasons why people weren’t into it – watching Harry and Ginny interact is just very uncomfortable. That being said, it does capture that blundering teenage phase perfectly (though I still don’t know why she FED him).

When everyone got diarrhoea in Bridesmaids.

This is gross-out humour at its finest, and for some, it just took things too far – even Kristen Wiig couldn’t stand the scene. That being said, it did serve as the catalyst for Annie and Lillian’s going (even further) downhill, and it’s one of the movie’s most memorable scenes.

The drunk driving scene in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Nicky’s clearly a ridiculous character, and danger and illegalities aside, this is a hilarious performance from Leslie and Steve. It’s pretty obvious why this one is controversial, especially as it doesn’t really add to the plot. I’d say this scene hasn’t aged well, but actually, I think drink driving has always been frowned upon.

The dancing scene in IT.

I’m scared of clowns, so I found this all sorts of terrifying. But it would seem that I’m in a bit of a minority here – a lot of people found this moment more random and amusing than menacing. The many many memes this scene spawned are great though.

The notorious sign scene in Love Actually.

Like Pennywise the Dancing Clown, this is one of the most recognisable moments from the film. That being said, most people seem to hate it. 19 years on, and I’m still not sure if it was meant to be romantic or tragic, but it’s definitely chaotic.

The puking scene in Pitch Perfect.

Starting an acapella movie with projectile vomit is a pretty daring move, to say the least. It’s undeniably gross to watch, but would we look at Aubrey the same if the movie didn’t start like this?

When Cher turned up at the end of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

If you only saw the trailer for Mamma Mia 2, you probably assumed Cher was one of the main characters. No – she just shows up at the end to sing “Fernando.” It’s an iconic performance, but to some, it feels kinda shoehorned in. The Cher-Factor is there, but only for a couple of minutes.

And finally, the flying car at the end of Grease.

Grease has some whimsical fantasy moments in the form of song, but it’s clear to see that “Beauty School Dropout” and “Greased Lightnin’” are daydreams. The flying car takes a normal teen musical and opens it up to confusion, questions, and many a fan theory. Is it a dream? Is it a metaphor? Does it signify Sandy’s ascension to the afterlife? So many questions, zero answers.
