25 LGBTQ+ Films That Actually Have Happy Endings

    Movie night, anyone?

We recently asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us their favourite LGBTQ+ films that have happy endings. Here's what they said!

    1. The Incredibly True Story of Two Girls In Love

    New Line Cinema

"They have so much going against them but they end the movie still clinging to each other."

    2. The Way He Looks

    Vitrine Films

"It’s a Brazilian film about a blind boy. It makes me emotional every time."

"Such an amazing movie. I've seen it no fewer than 20 times."

    3. God's own country

    Orion Pictures Samuel Goldwyn Films

"A Yorkshire farmer gets involved with a migrant worker. It's not perfect but this movie makes me sob and sob and sob, it's got such a warm and fuzzy ending."

    "It's beautiful, definitely my favourite."

    4. How I Felt When I Saw That Girl AKA Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga

    Fox Star Studios

"It was so heartwarming to see queer women of color represented on screen in such a lighthearted yet significant way! So many 'lesbian' movies end in tragedy or are just straight-up terrible so I appreciated this film a lot."

    5. The Miseducation of Cameron Post

    FilmRise / Vertigo Releasing

"It will always have a special place in my heart."

    6. Yes Or No

    Canon Yuri

    "The feels!!!"

    7. Imagine Me and You

    Fox Searchlight Pictures

"Not only is the ending a happy one, but the acting, soundtrack, and story are all wonderful. Plus, Lena Headey and Piper Perabo had absolutely beautiful on-screen chemistry!"

    8. D.E.B.S

    Samuel Goldwyn Films

"It's one of the only gay movies with a happy ending, a plot that's not just regular life, and it's so cheesy."

"It’s kinda cheesy but the plot is really interesting and I felt the chemistry. I was rooting for them through the movie and I never wanted it all to end. I’ll watch that movie over and over just for the butterflies I feel in my tummy at their relationship."

    9. GBF

    Vertical Entertainment

"It's a modern camp classic! So much heart in that movie."

"It’s such a light-hearted and fun film and it has a cute ending. The jokes are hilarious and the satire is spot on. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve rewatched it."

    10. Shelter

    here! Films / Regent Releasing

"Its such an amazing story. If you haven't watched it. Do yourself a favour and see it. You will love it."

"I’m completely obsessed with queer film and I even teach a high school film class. My favorite is Shelter because it represents real people and has characters that aren’t stereotypes or “queer” as their only driving identity."

    11. The Handmaiden

    CJ Entertainment

"It has a happy ending – you’ll need to go through some plot twists to get there and read some subtitles but it’s so well made and worth it!"

    12. Pride

    20th Century Fox

"I really resonate with the main character, Joe. He comes from a conservative family, like I do, and deals with anxiety relating to his LGBTQ+ identity. My favourite part of the movie is seeing how people who come from different worlds can come together under one banner. It allows me to find hope in the world we live in, which can too often seem so dark. The movie brings me to tears and fills me with pride in who I am every single time. I would highly recommend it!"

    13. Esteros

    Breaking Glass Pictures / Outplay

"It’s a really small budget Argentinian film about two childhood friends who meet again years later as adults. It’s beautifully filmed and the chemistry between the two leads is amazing. AND it actually has a happy ending that gives you hope for the character's future together. I really wish more people knew about this movie."

    14. Love, Simon

    20th Century Fox

"I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after I watched it. I was a mixture of insanely happy and insanely jealous."

    15. Kissing Jessica Stein

    Fox Searchlight Pictures

"Even though Jessica wasn’t actually a lesbian, her mother accepted her, Helen got a happy ending and a new girlfriend, and Jessica didn’t look back at her relationship with Helen with embarrassment or anything. She truly was happy to have had the experience, as was Helen. It was all around a really good movie and exactly what I needed when I was younger."

"That movie helped me figure out so many things when I was a teen."

    16. With Every Heartbeat AKA Kyss Mig

Nordisk Film / Wolfe / TLA

"Very good movie and one of the first lesbian movies with an actual good ending."

    17. Alex Strangelove

"It's such a beautiful movie with a happy ending!"

    18. 4th Man Out

    Gravitas Ventures

"Its about a "manly" guy coming out as gay to his "manly" friends and its a really lovely movie about acceptance and friendship and learning and I love it."

    19. Beautiful Thing

    Sony Pictures Classics

"When Ste and Jamie slow dance in front of the whole estate whilst Sandra and Leah discuss their perfect woman 😍"

    20. Priscilla Queen of the Desert

    Gramercy Pictures

"When he meets his son for the first time and he unconditionally accepts him.. 'my mum says you're the best in the business!' Oh, I couldn't stop crying..."

    21. But I'm a Cheerleader

    Lions Gate Films

"I was so happy when Meghan cheered for Graham and confesses her love for her. It could've ended badly and in a cliché but I'm glad it didn't."

"The ending is adorable and made my gay heart sing."

    22. Hurricane Bianca

    Wolfe Releasing Netflix

"In the end everyone accepts their gay teacher and it makes me tear up every time."

    23. Moonlight

"The ending of Moonlight will stay with you – it warms your heart and leaves you a bit speechless. It's feelgood but not in the typical feelgood way."

    24. Boy Meets Girl

    Wolfe Video

"A rom-com/drama about a trans girl that has a positive ending."

    25. 3 Generations

    Big Beach Films

"As a pre-t trans guy, it was nice to see another pre-t guy and his struggles with his parents, grandparents, and school. And the ending made me cry, but it also made me think about how people treat others."
