    Fair warning to those of you who are faint of heart because this movie is dark as hell. It explores disturbing themes and the revenge plot is one of the best I've ever come across. Get ready for some gruesome Saw-esque deaths and a protagonist you'll be rooting for, from start to finish.

    Ever since I was subjected to Valentine when I was seven years old, I've grown up absolutely loving horror — but this one really got me. Hereditary tells the tale of a family that goes through tragedy after tragedy. It'll have you squirming in your seat and leave you haunted for days after.

    4. The Amityville Horror (2005)

    Researching the Amityville horrors as a 13-year-old really cemented my love of true crime and the film does not disappoint. If you've ever wondered how America's most haunted got its title, this is a great watch.

    5. Children of the Corn (1984)

    This cult classic is unmissable and is the perfect addition to any Halloween horror movie marathon. It creeped me out when I first saw it and I still get chills thinking of those children with glowing eyes. If you have seen it, watch it again and if you haven't, you're in for a wild ride.

    6. NOS4A2 (2019)

    Regardless of whether you're up to date with the comics or books, NOS4A2 does an incredible job of creating a thrilling horror series that will have you up in the wee hours of the morning, desperate to find out what happens next. The story follows a demon who feeds on the souls of children and a young artist who realises that she has the ability to track him. I'll leave the rest for you to discover.

    This gory slasher is the perfect package. It has incredible acting, fantastic make-up and effects and an engaging plot. The gore can be a little much at times, but I won't judge you for covering your eyes — it happens to the best of us!

    Picture Evil Dead but through the innocent eyes of a child and you've got The Gate. With the perfect amount of vintage gore, combined with its dark and scary themes, this movie is a riveting watch from start to finish. If you love '80s horror flicks, definitely add this one to your life.

    15. What Lies Beneath (2019)

    If you're a fan of Hitchcock, you'll absolutely love this classic horror film. ghost movie is eerie, thrilling and it will absolutely make you jump (in a good way!). It's one of the best recent horror movies that I've seen and I urge you to give it a chance.

    16. Pumpkinhead (1989)

    De Laurentiis Entertainment Group

    The '80s were the golden age of cinema and Pumpkinhead is proof of that. The story is engaging and well-paced, which is a rarity in most horror flicks (no shade, no tea, no hate), excellent set design and amazing special effects. I don't want to spoil the plot for you, so you'll just need to watch it and find out what happens for yourself.
