Australians Are Sharing Their Thoughts On Canadians And The Results Are Pretty Wholesome

Aussies and Canadians try not to roast Americans challenge (FAIL).

As an Aussie who has come into contact with a Canadian or two (hi, bestie!) over the years, I can confidently say that I am obsessed.

Turns out, I'm not the only one who thinks so, because when Reddit user u/devdevo1919 posted this thread asking Australians for their thoughts on Canadians — the answers were pretty bloody sweet.

    1. "[As an Aussie], New Zealand is the little brother and Canada is the cousin we look forward to seeing every Christmas."

    —u/YFN_FigarMin54

    2. "Canadians are what Australians would be if we had to put up with Americans next door."

    —u/Guava7

"Australians are the American next door. New Zealanders are the Canadians that have to put up with us."

    —u/WhenWillIBelong

    3. "If you’ve ever been to Canada, the everyday culture is strikingly similar [to Australia] — especially in the prairies."

    —u/melon_butcher_

    4. "It's cold, big and has lots of cool animals. I would love to visit there. However, it has a dark history regarding Indigenous people, much like our own."

"From what I understand, reparations are kind of being made, but it still has a long way to go — again — much like Australia. The first thing I think of is bears and moose. Plus, Justin Trudeau is good looking and seems pretty cool."

    —u/ragnarokdreams

    5. "A much more tame and reasonable version of Americans, with some unique cultural twists. It's well regarded in general."

    —u/F1eshWound

    6. "They [Canadians] have a sense of humour akin to ours [Australians]."

    —u/thatweirdbeardedguy

    7. "Canadians are like us [Aussies], but always apologising — and they have milk in bags."

    —u/mentholmoose77

    8. "They are our Commonwealth cousins! They have much more in common with us — and are better-liked — than Americans."

    —u/billbotbillbot

    9. "Canadians are cool. Canada is cold."

    —u/kam0706

    10. "The biggest problem with Canada is that they have a shit cricket team."

    —u/CruiserMissile

    11. "Their [Canada's] rugby team is ordinary as well."

    —u/twinsunsspaces

    12. "My biggest issue is that it looks cold as fuck. Otherwise 👍👍."

    —u/graspedbythehusk

"Gotta have something to keep the Americans away."

    —u/Towtruck_73

    13. "Most people in Australia dislike Americans, but we do like Canadians."

    u/paulteaches

    14. "It's sad, really, to just reduce it to 'America-lite'. But we do."

    —u/pulanina

    15. "I've never been, but I want to live there."

    —u/toast76

    16. "Canadians are just frozen Aussies."

    —u/jromz03

    17. "They're metric-Americans."

    —u/Inner_West_Ben

    18. "They're like us, except adapted to the cold. They're also unfortunately suffering a bit from being in closer contact with the US."

    —u/Articulated_Lorry

"And they're more polite. Australians can be a bunch of cunts sometimes."

    —u/broiledfog

    19. "We adore Canadians! Truly the Australians of the Americas!"

    —u/Raspberry_Riot

    20. "A cold 'Straya."

    —u/LB-Dash

    21. "They gave us Degrassi High...so they're pretty good in my book."

    —u/belowthedot

    22. "I think Canada is the pointy, greenish version of Australia, whereas we are roundish and more red dirt covered."

    —u/Plantmoods

Editor's note: I have no idea what this means, but I support it.

    23. "I really like Canada and Canadians. We operate on the same wavelength and have similar worldviews and senses of humour."

    —u/BadgerBadgerCat

    24. "Most beautiful country I've ever seen in the flesh. Great snow and the people are chill and friendly."

    —u/riggedsystemweknowit

    25. "I really appreciate that they use the superior date format — day, month, year."

    —u/Obleeding

    26. "If I didn’t live in Australia, I'd be living in Canada."

    —u/Ventureprise

    27. And finally, "What aboot Canada?"

    —u/onesixtytwo

I'm curious to know if the feeling's mutual, so if you're from Canada, feel free to let Aussies know what you think of us in the comments below!
