This New "Game Of Thrones" Filming Location Could Confirm A Huge Fan Theory

And for the next nine months the thing they'll most likely be speculating about is how Jon Snow can be brought back from the dead. But nine months is a long time, so allow us to give you something else to think about...

For those who haven't read the books, the Tower of Joy was the place where Eddard Stark found his sister Lyanna in a bed of blood, at which point Ned made Lyanna a promise moments before she died.

The theory – commonly known as R+L=J – says that the blood was the result of childbirth, and that the child in question was fathered by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. Knowing that any child of a Targaryen would be slaughtered by Robert Baratheon, Ned promised Lyanna that he would raise them as his own, telling everyone (including his wife) that the child was his bastard. If you hadn't worked it out by now, that child was Jon Snow. Half Stark, half Targaryen, Jon Snow is literally the song of ice and fire, or so the theory goes. The character is described as being in his thirties or forties, and is a "paragon of knighthood". He carries a famous sword, and the actor is required for a week of filming fight scenes.

So who could this be? In terms of legendary swordsmen in modern Westeros, Jaime Lannister and Barristan Selmy are about as good as it gets, and we already know what they look like. This suggests it will either be a character who doesn't appear in the books, OR someone who's already dead who appears in a flashback.

One theory is that this character is Ser Arthur Dayne, also known as "The Sword of the Morning". Dayne served in King Aerys II's kingsguard, and Ned Stark claimed he was the finest knight he ever saw.

Yep. The Tower of Joy! Dayne was one of three members of the kingsguard who Ned and his six companions discovered guarding the tower when they arrived to rescue Lyanna. Ned even said he would have died at the hands of Dayne if Howland Reed hadn't saved him.

Side note: Howland Reed (father of Bran's companions Jojen and Meera) was the only person other than Ned to survive the battle at the Tower of Joy, so is therefore the only person in Westeros who knows Jon Snow's true heritage. He's yet to appear in either the book or the show, though George R.R. Martin claims that he will make an appearance before the series ends.

For the story to be wrapped up in two (or three) more seasons, things have got to start moving soon. Assuming R+L=J is true, you'd think it would have to be revealed early enough for Jon to get his head around the truth, not to mention saving the world from the White Walkers and uniting the seven kingdoms.
