Selena Gomez: "Revival" Full Album Review Using 'Friends' GIFS

1. Revival

A great way to kick off the album (especially with a song that is also the album title, duh). It is a moody, mellow, but empowering song where you can kind of do a "I'm high and gracefully swinging limbs around, but floating in the air" type of groove.

2. Kill 'Em With Kindness

NBC / Via i.imgur.com

The whistles at the beginning is a nice touch. The song starts off slow and you think it's going to be a very slow ballad, but as the song progresses, you slowly realize you actually can dance to the song. Although its not a "I'm drunk in the club" type banger, but a nice arm bounce does the trick just fine. Slap this song with a remix and you could easily have an EDM smash hit. Avicii, Zedd, where you at?

Grade: B

3. Hands to Myself

NBC / Via s3-ec.buzzfed.com

I get a big "Slave 4 U" type of vibe with this song, especially with the beat, and sensuality of the song. You can definitely groove perfectly to this song if you are sitting at a bar, or at a house party. If you were going to initiate a make-out at a party, this song is the perfect one to do it to. Start off with a nice slow groove, scooch closer to someone on the couch, and boom...you're kissing.

Grade: B+

4. Same Old Love

NBC / Via stream1.gifsoup.com

The snaps in this song are really doing it for me. If you don't know what the name of the song is by the end, you must have not been listening because "I'm so sick of the same old love" is repeated probably over 20 times throughout the song. Charli XCX's appearance in the chorus definitely caught me off guard, but then you find out she co-wrote the song so you're like "OOOH, okay." Good second single though, I thought the music video could have been better though, right?

5. Sober

I haven't even gotten through the whole album yet and this is easily one of my favourite songs so far. It's hard-hitting yet has a slowness to it where you can groove, but hit those grooves hard. The lyrics are written really well and Selena's vocals absolutely MURDER this song (in a very good way). The song is very addicting, which is interesting because the song is about not wanting to be addicted to something. I had to actually check to see if it was a full 3 minutes because I enjoyed it so much that I lost track of time.

Grade: A

6. Good For You (ft A$AP Rocky)

NBC / Via cosmouk.cdnds.net

This is like the ultimate Netflix & chill song you could ever imagine. The lack of actual instrumentals and music makes the song because Selena's voice sounds so good on it. The song is best when you're lying down, relaxing...and getting 'lucky' if you know what I mean. No dancing is required for this song because it is so mellow and amazing that you just need to lay back, open those ears and enjoy.

Grade: A

7. Camouflage

NBC / Via stream1.gifsoup.com

It seems like the more slow, deep and meaningful songs are her best songs on the album so far because it feels like a 1 minute song, but it's actually over 4 minutes long. From the vocals to the piano, you should most definitely be slow dancing with someone you love to this song. She says "shit" in this song too which I thought was a tad funny.

Grade: B+

8. Me & The Rhythm

NBC / Via media.giphy.com

Whether you are the girliest girl alive, or the manliest man alive, this song will make you dance without you even realizing it. This song is like a 90's workout, electro pop amazingness blended together to make one hell of a catchy song. The way Selena says "me and THE RHYTHM" really fast is just perfect as well. I hit repeat a good 5 times before I even went to the next song.

Grade: A

9. Survivors

NBC / Via shortscore.net

This song didn't really grab me like the others. It's your basic pop song, repeating the same line a lot: "We are survivors" X's 10000. In my opinion it doesn't even need to be on the album. It's not an AWFUL song, but in comparison to the rest of the album this is my least favourite so far.

Grade: C

10. Body Heat

NBC / Via stream1.gifsoup.com

I was NOT expecting a song like this at all. It's very spanish-salsa club dancing type of song that you'd hear in like Zoro, except with that pop-flavour of course. I could seriously see Shakira singing this instead and at some points it even does sound like her. Selena surprisingly pulls it off really well, and I would LOVE a music video for this song. God only knows how amazing she would look in it. Wow. VERY FUN SONG!

Grade: B+

11. Rise

NBC / Via pinterest.com

Okay WOW, from the first verse I DID NOT expect the chorus that came with it. SO FAST with a choir in the background, I was freakin DIGGING IT! This is such a good song! I could seriously picture it being in a Disney movie, like Lion King or something epic like that. The chorus makes the song. It's only a 2 and a half minute song but it shouldn't be any other way. Very unique, different and awesome!!!

Grade: A-

This is where the Standard Version of the album ends, which was a SMART & GREAT decision. The rest is on the Deluxe Edition's

12. Me & My Girls

NBC / Via imgfave-herokuapp-com.global.ssl.fastly.net

When I saw the title of this song, it was obvious what it was going to be about, and it was. Not needing a man blah blah blah. But the song was A LOT darker sounding than I thought. I expected bubblegum pop-annoying, but it sounds like a halloween type song...so dark and creepy but catchy. Not my favourite at all but not bad at all.

Grade: B-

13. Nobody

NBC / Via tumblr.com

Like the first song, it's mellow, but you can still do some form of groove to it like you're high out of your mind or something. It's pretty steady throughout the whole song, not much change from beginning, middle and end. Not very memorable at the end of the day, for me at least.

Grade: B-

14. Perfect

NBC / Via media.vanityfair.com

This sounds like it could be "Good For You"s step-sister. They have the same silent & slow feel to it. It isn't as good as "Good For You", but it is not bad at all. Again, probably not memorable in comparison to others, but that's just how albums work. It's not to the point where I'd skip the song if it came on though, so that's a plus. And it is a good song to do the dirty too, if you catch my drift.....just sayin'

Grade: B

15. Outta My Hands (Loco)

NBC / Via media.giphy.com

I was very underwhelmed with this song. With the word LOCO in it, I expected it to be fiery, crazy and hype, but it wasn't. I honestly don't really have too big of an opinion on this song, nothing stood out to me. It was your average pop song, and it is on the Deluxe Edition, where it belongs.

Grade: B-

16. Cologne

NBC / Via tumblr.com

I was pleasantly surprised with this song, seeing how the last few songs have been going. This is an easy, simple but still good love song. It makes you just want to hug somebody and I think it's a good way to end the Deluxe Edition album for sure. Listen to this song while looking at this GIF, and it'll give you the feels for sure.

Grade: B

OVERALL GRADE: B+

NBC / Via tumblr.com

I gave 'REVIVAL' by Selena Gomez a B+ MAINLY for the Standard Version alone. Almost every song I could listen to on repeat over and over again, minus one or two songs...and that is hard to do for an album. The album was MUCH BETTER than I ever would have expected and I am very impressed. Great pop album! Has the right amount of upbeat songs, slow songs, emotional songs, etc etc.

If I were to grade the album WITH the Deluxe Edition, I'd give it a B. But let's ignore that.
