15 Things To Do In The 607

Upstate New York has nothing to do? I think not.

1. Visit the Colleges

If you ever find yourself in upstate New York’s Broome County there’s no way you can leave without visiting a few of the area’s best colleges. Hartwick College (above) is a private, liberal arts school that earned its nickname “Harvard on the hill” because of its hilly campus. SUNY Oneonta is a public, 4-year university that holds about 6,100 students. These two colleges make the town of Oneonta a very college-friendly area. Don’t forget to visit SUNY Delhi just down the road. SUNY Binghamton and Ithaca College are also great choices located in the 607.

2. Go to Tino’s

Tino’s pizza is just one of the many popular attractions of the 607. With a wide variety of toppings and combos this pizza joint almost always has a line out their door. Have you ever heard of cold cheese pizza? A pizza crust with fresh, cold mozzarella cheese placed on top giving a whole new perspective to “pizza.” It has been mentioned many times on the internet how amazing this pizza is. 3. Go to a Farmer's Market

The 607 is full of farmers markets. Many of the products come from certified organic farms, too. Local farms grow crops from the rich New York soil and make a profit from selling them. Farmer’s markets are a great way to support your local community and eat clean.

4. Go to Enchanted Gardens

Located in Binghamton, this is the perfect spot for anyone looking for a quaint get away. You may chose if you would like to go canoeing, or kayaking along the Susquehanna River. Another fun thing to do at Enchanted Gardens would be to camp. Their campsite is along the river so you will always have a beautiful view.

5. Check out Roberson Museum and Science Center

This center, located in Binghamton, is the perfect spot for families to learn something new. Having everything from a showing of “Nature's Best Photography,”  to getting to learn more about the mansion itself, it is the ideal spot for anyone interested in learning about both history and science. This museum has also received TripAdvisor’s “Certificate of Excellence”  on numerous occasions.

6. Go Skiing

Swain Mountain located in Hornell NY is a great place to go learn how to ski or go have a great time with family and friends. The 607 provides a lot of good skiing and snowboarding for all ability levels. This mountain has a 650 foot vertical drop, 33 trails and 120 open skiing areas.

7. Visit the Farmer’s Museum

Located in Cooperstown, NY, the farmer’s museum holds tremendous amounts of history inside its walls. It was founded in 1943 and comprises of a recreated historic village, working farmstead, and a carousel. If you are interested in upstate New York’s historic architecture this is the museum for you. The museum is one of the oldest rural life museums in the country and offers a wide variety of historical artifacts. Whether a school group or a family visit the museum always has a lot to offer.

8. Unwind at Uncorked Wine and Chocolate Loft

Looking for a spot to go with friends and enjoy the delicacy of wine, yet you also want mounds of chocolate? This is the perfect spot for you. Combining both of these cravings in the most relaxing ways, it is the ideal spot to have a glass, catch up with friends and even get the chance to meet some new people.

9. Visit Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown

Established in 1997 Ommegang Brewery has made a huge impact on the beer market in New York State. Their Belgian style ales and IPA’s are extremely popular. It is very interesting to see the process of beer being brewed. At the Brewery you can go for a tour and then a tasting afterword if you are 21.

10. Visit Windy Hill Candle Factory

Ever wondered how candles were made? Now you can find out, located in Port Crane, this is the ideal spot to watch candles get created as well as pick a few up to take home. Plenty of fun for both adults and children, this factory even has a spot with candy galore if you are having a sweet tooth.   

11. Go to Brooks' Barbecue for Dinner

Brooks Barbecue, located in Oneonta, is a great place to take the family out for dinner. It’s affordable prices, and amazing food make it a hot spot in the local area. People will come from out of town just to get Brooks amazing barbecue, you don’t want to miss your chance at having some of the best barbecue in the region.

12. Go Hiking

There are mountains everywhere around this region, and you won’t want to miss the views. There is Mount Utsayantha located in Stamford New York that offers gorgeous views of the region. Also the Catskill Scenic trail in Bloomville has even more beautiful views of the Catskills

13. Visit the Ithaca Waterfalls

Ithaca has over 150 waterfalls in 10 square miles. These waterfalls are something you won’t want to miss. One of the most amazing waterfalls is the Cascadilla Falls. They are located in downtown Ithaca and offer picturesque views, definitely worth the visit.

14. Visit the Salt Sanctuary

The perfect way to naturally relax. When entering a salt room the main thing to do is take a seat, the salt will do the rest. This has become a popular destination for those suffering from asthma, as well as skin problems. Salt rooms even benefit those with eczema. Even if you have no health problems it is a nice escape from the stressful world.  

15. Visit the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame

Cooperstown is where the first recorded baseball game in New York state was. It is known for its love and devotion to baseball for many years. Each year it attracts thousands of baseball fanatics and young recruits to learn about the history of baseball. Book a tour of the hall of fame and learn about the rich history and where it all started.
