    1. A full-zip fleece vest you can wear as a top layer when it's just a little chilly outside, or as a base layer when the time comes to truly bundle up.

Promising review: "Wore out my old fleece vest (8+ years) and needed to find one to replace it so onto Amazon I go. This vest popped up and for the price and ability to try it and return it if I don't like it, what the heck, $20 is worth at least a try. Well, I have to say I was surprised at the quality of the material, the quality of the construction and the fit. They had the color I wanted (Forest Green) in stock and the color matched what I thought it would be. I've been wearing the vest since it arrived a couple of days ago and so far, it's comfortable and warm." —Trebor

Get it from Amazon for $5.90+ (available in sizes XS-XXL and 19 colors/patterns).

Promising review: "For a long time I've been on a search for a good pair of winter slippers. Wasted so much money on stuff that just doesn't last, because it's made out of synthetic materials. These feel incredible! So comfy and warm. My feet do not sweat as in some synthetic slippers, and they look so good. They are a bit expensive, but if you pay a bit more once as opposed to buying a new pair of cheap slippers each season it's worth the investment. The only downside I can think of with these slippers is, if you get them, you'll be so comfortable that you won't want to leave the house. Great product! Highly recommend." —Michael

Get them from Amazon for $79.95+ (available in sizes 7-18 and five colors).

model wearing Pronto Uomo moto jacket
    Men's Wearhouse

Promising review: "I bought this jacket two weeks ago with a couple pairs of shoes. I knew the jacket was going to be nice, but I didn't expect it to fit so well and feel so expensive. It's much better than my (more expensive) brown leather jacket I've been wearing for years. The price might make some people uncomfortable, but it's more than worth it. The leather feels soft as butter, the quilted inside is very comfortable, and it fits like it was custom tailored." —kenoshakid

    10. A flannel shirt that's just heavy enough, meaning you can rock it on its own or use it as an ultra-warm, cold-weather layer.,

Promising review: "Rarely do I take the time to write reviews, however, when a product just blows me away and pleasantly surprises me the way this shirt did, I just have to... Back in the '90s I used to collect Eddie Bauer flannel shirts, and I loved them and their quality. However, through the years, their quality has deteriorated and their shirts are just not what they used to be (while their cost has risen to near ridiculous levels). Flannel shirts are supposed to be roomy and you shouldn't have to buy 1 or 2 sizes larger just to get a classic look. Plus flannel should be thick, and warm, not thin and looking like something that won't make it past the first wash. Well this Legendary Whitetails flannel shirt addresses all those points and more than met the very highest of expectations, at a very affordable price point. Will be ordering more now." —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $29.99+ (available in sizes S-5XL including tall sizes and 21 patterns/colors).

Nice Laundry, Griffin Gonzales / BuzzFeed

I recently got their colorblock fun short, and I must say, they are hands-down the most comfortable lounge shorts of all time. They somehow have the breathability of nylon basketball shorts, but also have a just-warm-enough fleece-like lining that sets them apart from other athletic shorts. You can also have them personalized with a letter or symbol of your choice (and believe me, you'll need to do this because everyone in your household is going to end up purchasing multiple pairs and you'll need to be able to differentiate who's whose).

Promising review: "These shorts are absolutely incredible! I wear mine almost everyday when after I get home from work. They are so beyond comfortable. They fit true to size, are the perfect length and will be the best decision you’ve ever made to buy them. I would rate them 10 stars if I could. I have since bought two pairs of every color since my first purchase!!" —Levi V.

Promising review: "Instead of overcompensating by warming up with hot showers, running around, double jackets, triple T-shirts, winter caps, neck warmers, sweatpants, triple socks, and/or even gloves, now I can just throw on these Thermajohns over my briefs, and with only the addition of socks and periodically a winter cap, I can remain incredibly snug all day long in my home. Bring it on, Winter power outages! I bought two pairs of these, would recommend them to anyone, and will likely buy more in the near future." —Brian Dempsey

Before I begin using them I wipe two coats of mink oil on them to preserve the leather. I also use KG's toe guard to get more life. For tile work and home construction these are my favorite boots." —david g.

Reviewer photo showing reviewer wearing Levi's sherpa-lined trucker jacket in changing seasons

Promising review: "Good Jacket for fall/winter. I would say this is an essential piece for any wardrobe. Not too heavy, not too light. Good for everyday use especially in the colder months. You can easily put this jacket on over a hoodie, no worries and it still won’t add too much weight like some jackets. The only thing is that it restricts your movement around the arms a little bit but I understand it has to be worn in so it will fit much looser. Overall a solid piece. Can’t go wrong with Levi’s." —Wayne De Leon

Get it from Amazon for $58+ (available in sizes XS-3X, including big & tall sizes, and 13 washes).

    21. A hoodie in a soft-fleece knit likely to become your all-time, always-on favorite (don't just take my word for it, the review below is pretty convincing).

model wearing vintage soft hoodie in autumn orange

Promising review: "Some would say I'm a world renown hoodie connoisseur. To that I would agree. I've obtained hoodies from across the globe, yet none have surprised me as this one. I sat alone browsing the site hunting for a hoodie to add to the collection and lo and behold I came across this one. I scoured numerous reviews, each one insisting adamantly of the softness of the pullover. A hoodie couldn't be that soft right? Wrong. I sat eagerly in my chair as the doorbell rang. I did the mad dash towards the doorknob as I viciously tore it open. It was here. I gripped the package with force as I slammed it on the table. As my hand gripped the sleeve I couldn't believe it. I do not know how Gap managed to do it, but I'm convinced that they asked God himself for a piece of heavenly cloud. This is the softest material on a hoodie I've ever come across, and trust me I've been globetrotting for hoodies like Indiana Jones. As I put the hoodie on it clung to me, completing me like Peter Parker and the venom suit in Spider-Man 3. It made me feel warm and safe inside like a New York coffee shop on a rainy Tuesday. All in all, I would highly recommend this hoodie." —sailboat4

Get it from Gap for $44.95 (available in sizes XS-XXXL including tall sizes, and eight colors)

    23. A timeless turtleneck sweater that'll always be appropriate whenever you can't decide what to wear.

    Jos. A. Bank

Promising reviews: "Having dressed in button-down shirts — for business, work, and casual occasions — for so long, choosing to break my mold by pairing a wool turtleneck and mock neck sweaters with suit and suit separates was worth the change. These sweaters are very comfortable and warm. With this sweater and my sport coat, I didn't even need an overcoat, at least in mild winter weather." —Martin

Promising review: "I recently traveled well north into Canada... north of Quebec City. I purchased this hat specifically for the trip. The weather was COLD and SNOWY. I'm talking about snow drifts that cover entire fronts of two story houses, and below zero temperatures. We went snow tubing, dog sledding, visited an Ice Hotel, and I wore this hat every day, all day, for the entire five day trip. The hat was wind proof, comfortable and very warm. I wasn't cold at all. Highly recommend." —buzsnyder
