    Spring Cleaning For The Soul

5 easy steps to help you prepare for the summer. Clean out the clutter & make way for a happier you

    1. Edit your playlist

Music has the ability to motivate, inspire & influence your mood. In order to clean out the clutter in your life you're going to need some background music. I hate mornings almost as much as I hate Nickelback, but starting your day off with a positive, upbeat playlist can better your work life as well as personal life. Don't know what to put on your playlist? Just imagine your life as a TV show...what would be your soundtrack? Here are some tracks off of my go-to AM playlist titled 'Wake Up & Live'

    Daylight-Matt & Kim

    Turn On Me-The Shins

    No Scrubs-TLC

    Monday Morning-Death Cab For Cutie

    Semi-Charmed Life-Third Eye Blind

And anything by my man JT

    2. Clean your newsfeed

How many times do you log in to Facebook and immediately ask yourself, 'what the...?' If your answer is yes, then it's probably because your newsfeed is covered in statuses containing poor grammar and/or punctuation, selfies of people on their way to work/in the bathroom and five more engagement announcements from people you thought to be social outcasts. Plain and simple, you need to delete these "friends." The process of 'cleaning your newsfeed' will relax you and can even serve as a procrastination method. Clutter your newsfeed with people you care about because the 'what the...' face causes wrinkles. (and ain't nobody got time for that)

    3. Get some fresh air

A fresh spring day comes in a close second to freshly popped popcorn as one of the best smells in the world. With the springtime aroma comes a new start, a chance to revitalize yourself. I don't know about you, but I am stuck in an office for 9 hours a day. When 6 pm finally comes around, I exit the building like I'm escaping from Azkaban prison. Get off your phone, get off your computer and GO OUTSIDE. Whether you are in sunny Florida (like me) or snowy Colorado, give your ass some face time with the outdoors. Just to clarify, get your fully clothed ass some face time (unless you are Ryan Gosling. Ryan you can do whatever you'd like)

    4. Remove the negative energy

My wise and beautiful mother constantly tells me to surround myself with people that feed my energy, rather than take it away. This may be the most important spring cleaning step because it forces you to stop and re-evaluate the relationships in your life. We all have friends who always find something to complain about or even friends who constantly see the glass half empty. I'm not saying to completely delete these people from your life, but perhaps spend a little less time with them. You'll notice a positive change in your mood and may even begin to view the world with a little more optimism. This adjustment, although at times difficult, will better your relationship with that individual as well clean your life of negativity.

    5. Feed your soul

What makes you happy? What makes you laugh? What makes you cry? What triggers your emotions? You should feel happy, you should laugh and you should feel everyday. (if you're crying everyday you may want to talk to someone) Too often we get sucked into this fast-paced world and slowly our daily routines become robotic. I know spring cleaning should consist of removing the clutter, but once a day or once a week, add some zest into this mechanical lifestyle. Read a BuzzFeed post that stimulates your mind, look up pictures of Boo, the cutest dog in the world or even laugh while watching YouTube videos of people falling down (you know you've done that once or twice). Life isn't too short, it's too long to live your life as a robot.
