I watched Phantom of the Opera movie when I was in first grade, and it definitely had a part in developing my sexuality a bit more rapidly. Not that that is a bad thing OR a good thing, it is just a cause and effect that is backtracked to this movie.
It kept on getting confused with its politics and horror and kept contradicting itself with the message via the chaotic plot lines so I agree. The effects and acting were good, but the storyline and message didn’t mix in and was brought out efficiently.
