Liam Daniel/Netflix / Via vogue.com Daphne remarks that she left her "husband and child" at home to be there for Eloise's debut but never explains why they couldn't come. Surely the ton would be thrilled to see The Duke, his diamond, and their adorable bundle of joy? Anthony proposes to Edwina Sharma at Aubrey Hall. Netflix / Via MEAWW Anthony invites the Sharma's to Aubrey Hall intent on making a proposal, and his whole family is there to support him. Daphne is there to give support to her brother in their childhood home. Once again, she is without the Duke. Anthony is the eldest Bridgerton, and the man of their household, surely this momentous occasion deserves an appearance from his brother-in-law? It's almost as if Simon doesn't consider the Bridgertons family at all. Rather just relatives of his wife. His absence is questionable for another reason as well: the Sharma's. The Sharma women are being sponsored by Lady Danbury who raised Simon after his father proved to be abusive and unfit. Lady Danbury is family to Simon, as are the Bridgertons, but Simon doesn't show up to support either. Eloise and Theo Netflix / Via EWWNew.com The Bridgerton family is in trouble when Lady Whistledown aka Penelope (Pen) Featherington writes about Eloise in her latest gossip rag. Lady Whistledown reveals Eloise's secret political meetings regarding the rights of women. This dark moment comes to pass when Eloise is accused of being Lady Whistledown by the Queen who threatens both her and her family. She mistakenly confides this information with her best friend Penelope who then writes this scandal to turn the Queens eye away from Eloise as Whistledown. However in my opinion this justification falls very short. Eloise has been the only person to truly love and cherish Penelope, but instead of revealing herself as Lady Whistledown to save Eloise, she instead blatantly reveals her secrets for the entire ton. Penelope claims that the Queen "would never believe" her to be Whistledown should she confess but she doesn't even try. Penelope could surely have used many tactics to prove herself as Whistledown, she simply didn't want to. So she hurt her one true friend instead. It's also important to note this isn't the first time Penelope has come for the Bridgertons in her gossip rag. Though it was her first attack on Eloise. As the Bridgertons become scorned by the ton, Daphne is there to support them. Simon is not. Anthony prepares to marry Edwina Sharma Netflix / Via Cosmopolitan.com The Queen herself throws a lavish wedding for Edwina Sharma (her diamond) and Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. Anthony's sister Daphne is notably in attendance for such an important family event, but her husband is not. He missed the wedding of his brother-in-law, the Viscount, the man of the Bridgerton household. A wedding hosted by the Queen of England. It is more than strange that Simon wasn't at least in attendance for this momentous occasion. No good explanation is given to excuse his absence. The bride ends up fleeing from the altar after being struck with the realization that her sister Kate and husband to be Anthony are in love with one another. Netflix / Via popsugar.com At the end of season 2 much has changed for the Bridgertons. After proposing to Kate Sharma, Anthony marries her off screen. We can however assume that Simon missed that wedding as well. The ending showcases the happy family together at Aubrey Hall. They have come to visit newlyweds Kate and Anthony who are enjoying wedded bliss. Daphne is in attendance along with her and Simon's adorable son David. Lady Danbury is there as well. But once again Simon is not. The season has concluded with many important events having happened to the Bridgertons, and no support shown from Simon. No reason is ever given for his absence. It doesn't paint him in a very good light to have him show so little interest into Daphne's family who mean a great deal to her. Duke Simon Hastings Netflix / Via bridgerton.fandom.com I knew going into season 2 of Bridgerton that the focus would not be on Daphne and Simon as it was in season 1. It was Anthony's turn to be the main focus. However with such tremendous happenings for the Bridgertons throughout season 2 it only made sense for the family to come together. Daphne regularly appears to show her family support, and we even get to see her son David. Her husband's complete and total absence is confusing and somewhat upsetting. After all we went through with him and Daphne in season 1 it would've been a pleasure to see them as a united and happy family unit. Unfortunately this was not the case. There wasn't even a reason given for Simon to miss so many important family moments, especially Anthony's wedding. While I thoroughly enjoyed the second season of Bridgerton, Simon's lack of support for his in-laws was a large and confusing disappointment.
