11 Reasons Why You Can't Miss M. Night Shyamalan's "Glass"

Glass will shatter (geddit???) all of your preconceptions about comic book movies.

1. Like The Sixth Sense and Signs, Glass is another truly mind-bending psychological thriller from M. Night Shyamalan.

Buena Vista

The release of Glass marks the culmination of M. Night Shyamalan's comic book thriller trilogy which has spanned 18 years since the release of Unbreakable in 2000.

2. In Glass, we meet a heavily sedated and broken Elijah, aka the villainous mastermind Mr Glass (played by Samuel L. Jackson).

Buena Vista

Elijah, who has been incarcerated since the events of Unbreakable, suffers from Type I Osteogenesis Imperfecta, which has caused him to break 94 bones in his body – hence the name Mr Glass.

3. We're also reacquainted with *all* of Kevin's multiple personalities...

Buena Vista

James McAvoy is credited with playing more than 20 individual characters throughout the film.

4. And since we last saw him, David Dunn has been working in "security".

Buena Vista

Dunn's hypersensitivity allows him to sense evil in others, and his unbreakable skin has made him a pretty badass vigilante. But does doing something wrong for the right reasons make it okay?

5. They've all been gathered under the care of psychiatrist Dr Ellie Staple (played by the incredible Sarah Paulson).

Buena Vista

Dr Staple's mission? To research those who believe that they possess superhuman powers.

6. Basically, she wants to prove that superhuman abilities don't exist.

Buena Vista

As with the previous two films, Glass is a comic book film grounded in the ~real world~. Dr Staple's study into those who have "delusions of grandeur" hints at the skepticism with which the wider world treats people like David, Elijah, and Kevin.

7. Enter Elijah's master plan to team up Kevin's monstrous alter ego the Beast in order to enact vengeance on those who don't believe in their abilities.

Buena Vista

While convincing Kevin, Mr Glass refers to him as "an avenging angel" and makes the ominous prediction that "a lot of people are going to get hurt". Lovely.

8. This all leads to the Beast casually galloping through a field...

Buena Vista

We've all done it, right?

9. And Mr Glass wearing this rather fetching and personalised villainous costume.

Who made this for him? Did he have this with him when he was admitted to Dr Ellie Staple's care? What material is that jacket made from? TBH, this might be the most mind-bending bit of the film.

10. Glass once again pits David Dunn as a force of good against Mr Glass and, now, the Beast.

Buena Vista

*Cue epic fight scenes where nobody thinks about the poor chap who has to clean up all of this mess.*

11. The signature M. Night Shyamalan twist will have you questioning everything you've just seen.

Buena Vista

You need to expect the unexpected with this one.

Do superhuman abilities really exist? Find out in Glass — out in cinemas from Jan. 18, 2019. Watch the full trailer below.
