An Employee At A Catholic Girls School Has Been Charged After Child Pornography Was Allegedly Found On His Computer

"The individual was removed from contact with students and suspended from work," the school's principal wrote in a letter to parents.

An employee at a private girls school in Melbourne's northeast has been charged by police and "suspended from work" after "inappropriate images of children" were allegedly discovered on his computer.

The man worked at Catholic Ladies College in Eltham.

"A 30-year-old Hillside man was charged with knowingly possessing child pornography," a Victoria Police spokesperson told BuzzFeed News.

The investigation is ongoing, police said, and the man will appear at Heidelberg Magistrates' Court in April next year.

BuzzFeed News has obtained a copy of a letter sent to parents on Monday informing them that the staff member was suspended.

"The individual was removed from contact with students and suspended from work, in line with both college procedures and our obligations under state law," principal Stephanie Evans wrote in a letter to parents.

    "Legal proceedings are now underway."

On Tuesday, Evans said as well as calling the police, the school also advised the Commission for Children and Young People and the Victorian Institute of Teachers.

"The care, safety and well-being of children and students is a central and fundamental tenet of Catholic Ladies’ College, Eltham and our sole priority," she said in a statement sent to BuzzFeed News.
