Grieving Pit Bull Won't Leave His Dead Partner

This photos of a dead pit bull, struck by a car, and her grief-stricken male companion circulated on Facebook over the weekend. The surviving pit bull remained by her side for more than 14 hours before animal control arrived. He reportedly kept nuzzling her, perhaps with the expectation she might wake up.


A local business became so concerned by the slow response of Phoenix Animal Care and Control that they put out water and food for the male.


No one has claimed the surviving dog, but officials fear he may be too emotionally distressed by the death of his partner to be adopted.
