Police in Germany have detained two men suspected of plotting a terror attack following a series of countrywide raids on Thursday morning.

The men — two out of four suspects sought by authorities — are both Algerian and have been detained following raids in Berlin, Hanover, and the town of Attendorn in North Rhine-Westphalia, according to Germany's DPA news agency.

Anonymous security sources reportedly told DPA that the raids took place after Germany's intelligence agency the Verfassungsschutz received a tip-off that a terrorist attack on an undisclosed location was being planned.

One of the suspects was detained in an apartment block in Berlin, while the second was detained at refugee center in Attendorn, an anonymous police spokesperson reportedly told DPA.

Police in Berlin said the first suspect is wanted by authorities in Algeria, who believe him to be a member of ISIS, Reuters reported. The man is suspected of having received military training in Syria.

German authorities have repeatedly warned that the country is under threat of a terrorist attack since the November 2015 attack in Paris that killed 130 people.
