Hey hi hello soo if you're here you're probably queer and looking for things to help you celebrate Pride Month. But first, a quick recap on Pride itself for those who may need it!

Cartoon Network

LGBTQIA Pride Month is celebrated during the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Manhattan. The uprising was led by prominent activists who fought for queer rights, such as Marsha P. Johnson, and the uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement.

Pride month is about celebrating queer identity, honoring the activists and queer rights advocates who came before us, and supporting the most marginalized members of the LGBTQIA community; such as LGBTQ youth and the trans community.

thetrevorproject.org

If you're an ally, or if you're interested in supporting the community directly, learn more about and donate to The Trevor Project, an organization that helps LGBTQ youth in crisis. Or, learn more about and donate to the National Center for Transgender Equality.

During Pride Month, Pride marches are held throughout the country. If you're going to buy Pride products for the march (or just for the month!), it's important to buy from queer-owned companies and shops whenever possible, to support the LGBTQ community.

youtube.com

Large queer-owned companies often give portions of their proceeds to LGBTQ charities and outreaches, hire queer artists to design products, hire diverse LGBTQ models (which puts money in queer people's pockets and adds queer representation in media), and are great to support during Pride; vs. even larger non-queer-owned companies that can commodify Pride.

And smaller queer-owned shops (such as shops on Etsy or local queer-owned shops) are also a great option to support the community while gearing up for Pride!
