Phénomène rare, des aurores boréales —aussi connues sous l'expression «lumières du nord» — ont illuminé le ciel à plusieurs points de l'hémisphère nord ce mardi, à la suite d'une énorme tempête solaire.

Mardi soir, la tempête géomagnétique était juste en dessous de la catégorie la plus sévère pour les tempêtes solaires, et les aurores ont pu être aperçues beaucoup plus loin des pôles que d'habitude, selon le Centre de Prédiction de la Météo Spatiale.
Les sublimes lumières générées par la tempête ont été capturées par des photographes à travers le Nord des États-Unis, au Canada et en Europe. Voici quelques unes des plus belles images:
