23 Things You'll Only Understand If You're 23
You're now closer to 30 than 16.
When you're 21 you're an adult in the eyes of the law all over the world.
And when you're 22 you probably starting doing adult things like leaving university and getting a kind of job.
But when you're 23 you start to feel like you're an adult.
Suddenly staying in sounds way more appealing.
You start to the appreciate the little things you took for granted before, like leaving work on time.
Nights out have to actually be good for you to want to go.
You think you might have just about got the gist of this being a grown-up thing.
But then you'll have to do some kind of complicated piece of admin, like council tax, and the illusion that you're in any way capable will crumble around you.
Your early twenties can feel like a second awkward teenage phase.
You're not sure what kind of adult you're gonna be yet.
Basically you don't know if you're gonna be able to get your shit together, or if you're always gonna feel like you're just muddling through.
Teenagers seem like a different species to you now.
But you have a lot in common with 30-year-olds.
The word career sends fear into your heart.
Mortgages are definitely still in the category of "things other people do".
More and more baby pictures are starting to invade your Facebook.
You can't really imagine having a baby yourself yet, but you think you could manage a pet.
Joking about marriage isn't so funny anymore, as some people are doing it for real.
Half the time you feel really old.
And half the time you feel really young.
That big quarter of a century milestone is just around the corner.
And you are closer to 30 than you are to 16.
But it's important to remember that you are definitely still young.
