1. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, VA
Found in Richmond, Virginia, the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden features a children’s garden, a rose garden with over 1,800 roses, and much more. The highlight, however, is the 11,000-square-foot Lewis Ginter Conservatory -- considered the "Jewel of the Garden" -- which is constantly brimming with a vibrant collection of unique plants from all around the world and themed sections that are organized by season.
2. Old Westbury Gardens, NY
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Old Westbury Gardens is a magnificent mansion (the former home of John S. Phipps and family) perched upon well-kept grounds, exquisite gardens, ponds, lakes, and woodlands that span 200 acres. Westbury House itself is furnished with English antiques and art and is also open to the public.
3. Missouri Botanical Garden, MO
The Missouri Botanical Garden, a National Historic Landmark, is an inviting gem in the middle of St. Louis. The Garden consists of a 14-acre Japanese strolling garden, Henry Shaw's original 1850 estate home, and one of the world's largest collections of rare and endangered orchids. It also houses the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House, for those who like chilling out with winged friends.
4. Filoli, CA
30 miles south of San Francisco lies Filoli, one of the last of its kind. Sitting pretty since the early 20th century, the Filoli estate features an impressive (to say the least) 36,000-square-foot Georgian country house surrounded by a 16-acre garden that harks back to the English Renaissance. This place is so incredible, it was made a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
5. Longwood Gardens, PA
There are over 11,000 different types of plants at Longwood Gardens, which you'll find in the city of Philadelphia. Explore the Italian Water Garden, the Flower Garden walk, aquatic display gardens, incredible topiary trees, and much more.
6. Desert Botanical Garden, AZ
You won't find anywhere else quite like the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Littered with more cacti than you knew existed, the garden is an explosion of color and life in the midst of the desert. There are constantly new and exciting exhibitions, which in the past have seen the gardens filled with incredible sculptures.
7. Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, TX
The Dallas Arboretum is 66 acres of glorious fauna, including the eight-acre Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden, which introduces kids to nature. The many, many gorgeous manicured gardens make it a worthy location in the spring, but fall is even better, when more than 65,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash are combined to build the adorable Pumpkin Village.
8. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, FL
A historic Italian estate smack dab in the middle of a Floridian paradise is the best way to describe Vizcaya. Built as a private home in the 1900s, Vizcaya is now open to the public, featuring some of the most elaborate gardens in the country. It's also renowned for the expansive art collection littered throughout the grounds, in case you want to meld culture and fauna.
9. Callaway Gardens, GA
The stunning Callaway Gardens are vast with seemingly endless activities to do and places to explore. Big draws are the Day Butterfly Center, where 1,000+ butterflies live and freely roam; the Overlook Azalea Garden; the Thornhill Hydrangea Garden; and many more.
10. Chicago Botanic Garden, IL
The Chicago Botanic Garden is so expansive, you can explore it by tram. There are wonders to view both indoors and outdoors, and the 385-acre grounds includes 26 gardens and 81 acres of water. It's impossible not to love the Model Railroad Garden, a 7,500-square-foot extravaganze which showcases landmarks of America with miniature trains.
11. Portland Japanese Garden, OR
Considered one of the greatest Japanese gardens outside of Japan, the Portland Japanese Garden is 5.5 acres of beautiful grounds exhibiting five individual garden styles: the Flat Garden, the Strolling Pond Garden, the Tea Garden, the Natural Garden, and the Sand and Stone Garden. For a gorgeous garden experience that's relaxing and tranquil, this is a must.
