Here's The Cast Of "Dune" And The Characters They Are Playing

Time to visit Arrakis.

The internet is abuzz with chatter about the spectacular science fiction epic Dune. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, this movie is the adaptation of the first half of the novel Dune, written by Frank Herbert.

The movie boasts an ensemble cast, and here's your guide about who's who.

Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides

He is the son of Duke Leto. the heir of House Atreides, and the protagonist of this movie. He accompanies his father to the planet Arrakis, aka Dune, which brings him closer to his destiny.

Zendaya as Chani

She is a Fremen, the native inhabitants of the planet Dune. She is a fierce warrior and later becomes the love interest of Paul.

Oscar Issac as Duke Leto

He is the noble leader and head of House Atreides. He is tasked by the emperor to bring order to the desert planet Arrakis, aka Dune. He knows that it is a trap but accepts the task nevertheless.

She is the mother of Paul, Duke Leto's concubine, and a member of the mysterious Sisterhood known as the Bene Gesserit. She has a power known as ‘the Voice’ that allows her to weaponize her words.

He is a "legendary Swordmaster and virtuoso warrior, Duncan Idaho may be House Atreides’ deadliest weapon. A fearless pilot and expert in stealth reconnaissance, he is the eyes and ears of Duke Leto, and the first of House Atreides to leave footprints on the desert sands of Dune. A man of loyalty and lethality, his guiding principle is to fight for the royal family as though they were his own, and to defend Paul Atreides with his life."

He is the Warmaster of House Atreides and is also responsible for training Paul in warfare and combat. A formidable and experienced warrior, he lost his family to the Harkonnens. 

Stephen McKinley Henderson is Thufir Hawat

He is a Mentat: "A highly-trained strategist whose mind has the infinite processing power of a supercomputer. A grandmaster of cause and effect, he is capable of seeing all possible outcomes to unravel plans within plans, and to protect Paul Atreides from threats seen and unseen."  

Chang Chen as Dr. Wellington Yueh

He has been described as "the trusted House physician for the Atreides royal family, Dr. Yueh uses intricate pressure point manipulation to detect injuries, sense sickness, and even intuit the psychological state of his patients simply by touching them. More than just a doctor, he values human life above all things and is part of the Atreides closest inner circle, having long watched over their well-being with the same care he affords his own family."  

Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen

An extremely obese man, he is written to be hideous inside and out. A brutal and malevolent man, he is the imposing head of House Harkonnen and the sworn enemy of House Atreides. He was the former caretaker of the planet Arrakis, and he is very possessive about it.

He is the nephew of the baron and a savage and sadistic brute. He is his uncle's chief enforcer and will do anything necessary to secure his house's interests.

He is the Mentat of House Harkonnen. He "uses the cunning and venom of his poisoned mind to carry out Baron Harkonnen’s malevolence, while staying one step ahead of his fierce rival Thufir Hawat in the ever-turning game of psychic warfare between the Houses of power."

Javier Bardem as Stilgar

He is a Fremen and holds a leadership position among them. He is "revered as a man of great wisdom, born of a deep symbiotic relationship with the wilds of Dune; a primal survivor who has made the most dangerous planet in the universe his home."

Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Dr. Liet Kynes

She is an ecologist who is the "foremost expert on the planet Dune and the ways of its people." She has been entrusted with overseeing the transfer of power on Arrakis. She is also the mother of Chani.
