Student In Spain Kills Teacher With A Crossbow

Two others were injured in the incident at Barcelona's Joan Fuster Institute. The student is in police custody.

A student armed with a crossbow killed a male social sciences teacher and injured a Spanish teacher and her daughter at a Barcelona school on Monday, according to a statement on the Catalonia police's website.

The incident took place at the Joan Fuster Institute, where the teacher was working as a substitute.

Los Mossos d'Esquadra, as the Catalonia police are known, arrested the student. They didn't release his identity because he is underage.

Speaking to El País immediately after the incident, students said their classmate fired the first arrow at the Spanish teacher when she reprimanded him for arriving late. Classes start at 8 a.m., but he allegedly arrived at 9.30 a.m. local time.

He then stabbed the teacher's daughter in the leg, witnesses said.

After hearing screams, the social sciences teacher ran to rescue the students and was was shot in the abdomen. The 70-year-old died at the scene.

The students have reportedly been taken to a local police station to give eyewitness statements.
