I take your point, but the average price tag of a wedding in the US is more than $24,000, so $8,700 is definitely something a lot of people would consider cheap. (FWIW, I think $8,700 is a lot, too, I just don't blame the author for presenting the ways she kept costs down.)

Yup. In my house, having electricity so we *could* leave the oven open was a rarity. We lived through New England winters without heat or electricity. I turned every paycheck over to my mother and wore my clothes until they wore out.
