We know you were a famous wandmaker in Europe, but who would have thought you’d be killed by Voldemort himself? You must not have learned from the _Tale of the Three Brothers_ not to brag about having the Elder Wand. It's too bad Voldemort didn’t know that Grindelwald had stolen it from you years before he came looking for it. Nevertheless, you got the ol' Avada Kedavra from him just because. Pity, Ollivander will get even more business now.

Asking Harry to publicly align with the Ministry for appearance's sake didn’t leave the best first impression, but hey, being the Minister of Magic is no easy task. You weren’t in office long, but as a former Auror, you certainly seemed tougher than your predecessor Cornelius Fudge. Withholding Dumbledore’s bequests for as long as possible and harassing Harry for information was annoying, but in the end, you proved yourself an honorable wizard. When Voldemort demanded to know where Harry was hiding, you refused to give up his location, even though it got you the killing curse. Wands in the air to you, Minister!

Being a parent is hard enough, but having a son who's a Death Eater? Well, that's killer. You were a rule-abiding Ministry official until the bitter end, even though that meant sending your own son to Azkaban. You were even ready to turn him in a second time when you realized that he was posing as Mad-Eye Moody, but sadly Barty Jr. killed you before you had the chance. He ended up transfiguring you into a single bone, but at least he buried you in Hagrid's garden, which isn't such a bad resting place.

Yikes! Being killed with dark magic is bad enough, but being used as a disguise for Nagini post-mortem? That's tough luck. At least while alive you were a celebrated magical historian. You went a bit batty in your later years and even got magically forced into spilling the Dumbledore family secrets to Rita Skeeter, but we'll always remember you best as the brilliant author of the oft-mentioned _A History of Magic_.

Bathilda Bagshot

You poor muggle, you! You didn't stand a chance against Lord Voldemort. All you ever did was keep up your duties as the gardener of the Riddle Estate, and then you ended up as the prime suspect in their murders. Then years later, ever faithful to your position, you become a victim yourself. At least you went out with a bit of sass: "Turn 'round and face me like a man, why don't you?"

Frank Bryce

One of the luckier ones, you died of illness, surrounded by your MANY children. Hagrid hatched you from an egg, raised you for as long as possible in the castle, and always visited you in the forest. It was kind of shady of you to let your family try to eat Harry and Ron, but they did just wander willingly into your midst, after all. Hagrid gave you a proper funeral, attended by Harry and Professor Slughorn, who gave a beautiful eulogy. All in all, not a bad life and death for an Acromantula.
