You've Been Cutting These 7 Vegetables Wrong Your Whole Life

I like cornbread and collard greens...and asparagus and peppers and cauliflower.

    1. Asparagus

Snap the end off of one stalk so you know where the root is and slice the rest in the same place.

    2. Grape Tomatoes

Gently press the grape tomatoes in between two container lids and slide a knife through.

    3. Onion

Cut off the top end and slice the entire onion in half. This will make it easy to peel the skin away.

Make vertical slits on each half about an inch from the root.

Pull the knife through the onion parallel to the table and then chop the onion parallel to the root.

    4. Cauliflower

Pull off the stem and stalks.

Slice in half and cut out the roots.

Pop off any florets if the pieces are still too large.

    5. Hot Peppers

Slip a knife through the end of a plastic bag so that you can wear the bags like gloves. Cut off the stem.

Slice the pepper into three and slide the knife along the root to take out the seeds.

    6. Garlic

Slam the garlic against your counter to break up the cloves.

Put the cloves in a container and shake. The bulbs should come right out of their peels.

    7. Bell Peppers

Cut the top off of the pepper and yank out the guts.

Slice in quarters and wiggle your knife along the ribs.

    Stack the quarters and slice.

    8. Romaine Lettuce

Chop off the root, cut the head in half, and chop.
