12 Undeniable Truths About Life

It's about to get real.

12. Inspiration can disappear just as fast as it appears.

If you ever feel the urge to do something creative, hold on to it like it’s the last slice of pizza. This one is especially true if you have a short attention span (like I do). I would get this massive idea and think, “oh my god, I really want to do this”, and then an hour later I’m sitting in bed watching a marathon of Sex and the City. So if you ever have a creative idea, write it down.

11. The wrong people will make you feel more lonely than actually being alone.

Find people who share similar morals and values as you. This isn't saying your best friends should be clones of yourself, because that would be weird - unless it’s the year 4032, where that would be totally normal. All I’m saying is, surround yourself with people you can talk to and who will listen. Like, really listen.

10. Music is the ultimate healer.

Now it's not advised that you to skip a trip to the doctors to listen to the new One Direction album. However, you can find great comfort in music. It has a way of giving you exactly what you need and a little bit more. One song can completely change your perspective – on anything.

9. Your dream has no age limit.

We live in a world where there are 14 year old rock stars. When I was 14, my biggest responsibility was making sure my Sim didn’t die. No seriously. In the world we live in now, there is nothing you can’t do. A little unqualified advice: if you’re lucky to know what you want at such a young age, pursue it. They say nothing worth having comes easy, and that’s true. So if you can get a head start, why not?

7. Everyone has a talent.

If you don’t, then you aren’t exploring enough things. If Elvis never picked up a guitar, it’s very possible that he could have gone his whole life without music. Try things, you never really know, now do you?

6. You will only perform as good as you feel. You’ll only feel as good as the food you eat.

I was once a fan of chocolate for breakfast. But eventually, I got the message that my body was NOT. My lazy 18 year old self would be laughing at this right now but I’m being serious. You will get so much more done with your day if you are healthy. Your whole attitude will change completely. Go eat an apple.

5. Everyone was born into the world the same way. (kind-of).

The next time you feel insignificant remember that even the people who made the biggest mark in the world started right where you did. However, I’m definitely not naïve enough to pretend that privilege doesn’t exist. There are most definitely people who were born with the upper hand and a ticket to success. But there are just as many, if not more, people who had to work their butts off to get where they are.

4. People stay, and people go.

Try not to get too upset over the people who are no longer in your life. If they wanted to be there, they would be. This isn’t saying that it has anything to do with you, maybe they just got busy. But like I said, if they wanted to call, they’d call. Put more focus on the people who are active in your life, instead of waiting by the phone.

3. Your decision is the only decision you could ever make.

If we were to dwell on every bad choice we made – we would be a very depressed group of individuals. The decisions you make are not wrong, if you knew they were you wouldn’t have made them (I hope). Instead of putting yourself down, learn from the mistakes you’ve made. It makes for a better you.

2. You're only as weird as you think you are.

Bullies prey on the weak. It’s a sad truth. The more confident you are about yourself the less someone will have anything to say. What could they really say about you that you haven’t already acknowledged? Be proud of what makes you different. A wise doctor once said, "you have to be odd to be number one." It was Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss said that.

1. Nothing is certain in life.

We’ve heard this forever but for some reason we don’t pay any attention to it. We should. I mean, you could be rich in dollars but not in happiness. You could eat a well balanced diet but still get sick. Look at everything for what it really is and remember that life is unpredictable. There's not one thing we can do about it, and that’s kind of the beauty of it.
